and tbh my read of why they repealed 377A is uh. probably more cynical than urs lol 😭😭 i feel like the govt only saved the announcement for the NDR speech so that it makes them look benevolent; like they learned on their own. if they announced it closer to pinkdot day or following one of the many court challenges to 377A, it would make them look like they’re relinquishing or backing down, iykwim? basically i feel like they did it to appease queer ppl and progressives AND in a way that saves face haha

Oh exactly. I agree 100%, and I'm glad to have found someone who thinks that way too, because you'd be surprised at how rare of a take it is.

I think it's a masterfully-pulled-off balancing act that reeks of politicking. Like, they never evER want to lose in court, and so the best way to give ground on 377a is to proactively grant it to the gays/liberals, and use it to sweeten the deal while simultaneously going the opposite ditection on way more insidious, homophobic state structures and systemic oppression e.g. marriage laws and housing access. (So that they don't lose clout with moderates/conservatives). In the end, the PAP is once again having their cake and eating it too.

And yes, all while looking like the balanced, "benevolent" ruler with total grasp over the current situation/trends/shifts in values.

Watching the Olympics with Yelena would include:

- golden opportunity for tactical missions

- when the whole world is watching

- secret organizations can do whatever they want

- once or twice Yelena even had assignments in host cities during the events

- but this year Yelena stayed at home

- you both decided to watch the Olympics on TV
