“A deal's a deal, Sixer! You can't stop the bridge between our worlds from coming. But it would be fun to watch you try. Cute even!”
That was the last thing he’d said to Stanford for at least a day now, but Bill was far from gone. He knew that the gate between their worlds was an inevitability at this point, but Bill still would have a hard time just switching the portal back on all by himself. The problem was that their deal granted him full access to Ford’s mind, rather than his entire body, so it became difficult to control the latter for extended periods of time without his pawn fighting back. And even if he did manage to switch it on, the device itself only had enough fuel for a test run, and it would be next to impossible to maintain control of Ford long enough to get more when his “partner” was so newly unwilling to cooperate.
But ol’ Sixer didn’t have to know any of that. For all he knew, reactivating the gate between their worlds was completely within Bill’s grasp, and that’s how the demon wanted to keep it for now. After all, this gave him a whole need game to play while he waited for his plans to come to fruition. Like any other game they’d played together, Bill’s first step was to lull his opponent into a false sense of security. Keeping an eye on Stanford’s actions, he waited for the opportune time to jump in and give his old friend a little surprise.
