Jake’s shoulders rose and fell. He couldn’t truly answer that question, and to be honest, he was surprised that for once, Sugar wasn’t bullshitting him. His hands ran down his face, feeling an onslaught of exhaustion. “I don’t know, Sugar, really I don’t. I can give you honest Jake, I can give you the real me, and I can give you the asshole, but you’ve been so clear that you didn’t want me in any capacity.” The thought that she didn’t want him had devastated him. He’d thought if he stopped fucking around, stopped being the asshole that he pretended to be, then maybe just maybe Sugar would share the same feelings that had come out of seemingly nowhere and knocked him flat of his ass, but she hadn’t until now. “So is this finally you being real with me, Sugar? Is this finally you saying that you can’t get me out of your head like I can’t get you out of mine?”
