He had been working there for merely a month by now, yet it felt closer to a week in time and Simon couldn’t recall when he had last felt even remotely excited about getting out of bed and doing something with his day -- other than his duties to Hayley. Woodworking and carpentry had become something of a hidden interest of his since his days living in Banff; although riddled with otherwise intricate information that would otherwise fly him by, Simon had soaked up every word spoken by his peers back then and even more so by working for the Balasco family. 

It was a part-time gig and nothing more, with him unloading the wood workers from dainty and boring tasks to free time they could use for better means -- but it was enough. He didn’t find himself screaming for cash, as his case against his parents had eventually landed him plenty, but America as a country didn’t come cheap and he knew money of all things didn’t last forever. Better to start early than to end up in past life scenarios he’d rather avoid, especially with a growing child in his care. 

“So...” Lunch time had hit the establishment and Simon was no late to slip down into a chair next to the family’s oldest daughter Amaryllis, finding it of importance to stay on top of his game and on friendly terms with his employers. This job was out of his usual range of luck and he couldn’t afford to gamble in his situation. “I’ve been here for like a month now, right? I thought I could take this opportunity and ask for some feedback, in case there’s something you think I need to work on. Or maybe if you have any other tasks you’d want me to get into, I’m open to ideas.”
