" you're wasting your time, " clara sighs, pulling on her jacket as she moves to exit the bar. but as she turns back to face them, there's the smallest hint of a smile, daring mess behind her gaze. " do you enjoy thatā wasting your time ? " @svftlove liked for a short starter !
@emerywoodsā
Why was it that Clara couldnāt be brave for once? She had liked Bryn for months now -- one of the few things in her life that hadnāt seemed to fluctuate. Perhaps it was the thought of losing them that scared her so much, especially if they didnāt feel the same. What if they never wanted to speak to her again? Her first lifeline from her time at the academy would be gone as if it never existed. Meaningless. The thought of it alone sent shivers up her spine. For now, Clara could write the shiver off on the extremely slight nip in the air.Ā
The sight of the familiar professor was a comforting one. Professor Woods had always shown her nothing but genuine kindness and although she was not a student of his, she felt understood by him. It had been a short time since Professor Soliel had been injured and she had healed him and she had made several visits to their home to check up on him.Ā
From the look on the manās face, he needed someone to talk to. Could Clara be that person? Something in her wanted to figure it out.
āHi, Professor Woods..ā The brunette said quietly flashing a small smile and giving him a wave.Ā āI was going to ask if.. you were enjoying the fair.. sorry, but.. you look like youāre somewhere else.ā
His role as an undercover operative meant that relationships outside of his family---and what little remained of it---had to be kept to a minimum. Cassian spent most of his time with Tatiana as it was, there werenāt many instances when he was able to slip away from the Winter Court princess, and even when there were, he usually ended up remaining by her side all the same. However, there were some instincts that even he couldnāt ignore, his wealth of self-control notwithstanding, and there was nothing like the Full Moon to bring them out tenfold. It boggled him to no end that the date of the wedding had coincided directly with the most important part of the Lunar Cycle, was it the Night Courtās way of boasting their superiority over the Wild Hunt?Ā
It wouldnāt have surprised him, smarmy, stuck-up bastards that they were. But, it was Cassianās duty to attend the extravagant affair as the tsarinaās bodyguard, more than that it was the perfect opportunity to gather intel as a spy. Lucien was already present, rightfully so, as his position of King of Wolves demanded of him, but it wasnāt as if Cassian could seek him out---not when he was meant to be undercover. There was much work to be done though, it was as Tatiana was mingling with Arielle and Calliope---two of the princessās closest friends---that Cassian took it upon himself to slip away unnoticed. In his sleek, dark blue tuxedo, the very same color as the Night Courtās star filled sky, he made a sharp, polished figure, easily navigating the crowded ballroom. He wasnāt sure what he was looking for at first. Ares, perhaps? God only knew what the fucker was up to tonight, he couldnāt have been pleased with Tatianaās choice of date for one.
Except. There, across the dance floor, in a sparkling blue dress. Tan skin, lustrous brown hair, playful eyes. Clara. Immediately, the wolf inside of Cassian came to life with a pleased, hungry growl, how long had it been since heād last seen his fellow Wild Hunt packmate? Consistency and stability were two things that he had never been able to offer her, but companionship during the Full Moon had come naturally enough, he couldnāt recall the amount of times that heād whisked her away into the woods to pin her up against a nearby tree or have his way with her in one of the mating tents. He was fond of her, to say the least, she provided him with comfort and intimacy when he needed it most, and he never, ever left her unsatisfied as a result.Ā
A slow, lazy grin worked its way across his face as he approached her, large hands tucked into the pockets of his crisp trousers, surely nobody would pay him any mind if he stopped to check in on her for a second. He hadnāt been back to The Widowed Oak in months---too busy.Ā āSongbird,ā he said easily, good-naturedly, the petname heād always favored her rolling off of his tongue with little to no effort. He tilted his head towards hers in greeting, he wondered if sheād be able to feel the heat of his skin rolling off of him in waves.Ā āI didnāt think Iād get to see you here tonight. Did somebody call for a huntress?āĀ
