"It's better this way, Dawn." Hank said as he continued to pack his bag. He wasn't good for her and in all honesty, they weren't good for each other. It broke his heart to realize the truth but they were both hurting each other more than they were helping and loving the other. He sighed, looking over at her.

"It's for the best, Dawn. You'll thank me for leaving later on. But it's never been just you. It's been me too and I'm sorry for everything I've ever done to hurt you. But I won't anymore. It's over, Dawnie. No more Hawk and Dove either. You're free."

Hank scowled, not looking over at her. He didn’t want to see the disappoint in her eyes like he had heard it in her voice. He knew that she was disappointed, heart broken probably, but they weren’t together. So why did she care? “I’m fine, Dawn. And I can do whatever the fuck I want to myself so what does it matter?” He rolled his eyes, taking a long drink from the bottle of whiskey. 

“Why does it matter to you when you clearly don’t want anything to do with me.”

“Then let me.” He smiled softly at her, hand moving through her hair and down her back. “Let me chase them away for you.” Because if anyone understood demons it was him. He knew all about the ghosts and demons that haunted them even if theirs’s weren’t the same. 

“You aren’t alone, Katie.” He whispered softly. “You don’t have to chase them away alone.”

There was no other way to stop her other than to grab her, his strong arms wrapped around her as he carried her away. She was kicking and screaming, crying. Hank hated it and his heart broke for her but there was nothing they could do... Nothing that would bring them back. He knew that and he held her tighter. 

“C’mon, Katie. C’mon.” He whispered as he walked faster with her in his arms. He knew that there was nothing he could say or do that would make this better but hell, the best thing he could do was get her further away so she didn’t have to see anymore.

“You don’t have to, gorgeous.” He smirked but there was also the underlying sweetness in his tone and affection... Hank really did love the woman who was fixing his tie. He never did like wearing monkey suits as he so often called them but he had a feeling this was to be part of his life now. He still couldn’t believe he was attending a Wayne Function willingly. But... that was what he got when he was dating Bruce Wayne’s niece and also dating Bruce’s daughter’s cousin. Aimee was never going to let him hear the end of it.

“No.” Hank growled, hands on the bars as he looked at the other. He wasn’t happy about any of this, he didn’t want to be here but he knew he should have walked away from the fight before he could even change into his costume. He knew it but his temper always seemed to get the better of him. 

“Look, don’t rub this in my face. I didn’t feel like calling Dawn and God knows Ferris and Grayson wouldn’t let me hear the end of it. Just bail me out and we can go, alright?”
