Cloud’s first mistake was probably deciding that taking deliveries to and from the Smash mansion was a good idea.

His second mistake was taking his first delivery from Pit, who was without a doubt the worst person to take directions from considering the angel was illiterate. However, Cloud couldn’t deny him since he was so excited to send this particular package.
