“Pestilence.” Uriel spoke his name with dramatic flair, corners of his lips turning upward into a smile that wasn’t as warm as it could have been. “I heard you were in town. The rumors must be true then, yes?” God truly had abandoned them. If they were to face the end of of the world, the biblical Armageddon as it was foretold, then that would explain why one of the Horsemen was there – instead of hiding out under whatever rock they usually stayed buried beneath.
Still, it was Pestilence – not death – the pale rider than signified the beginning of the end. Perhaps there was still hope for this world, for the creation their father had worked so hard to craft, and the humans who remained blissfully unaware of the war brewing around them.
“You look good,” he said, not untruthfully. “You look healthy.” An oxymoron, given who he was and what realm he maintained control over. But then it was time for the small talk to stop, and the heart of the issue to be resolved. “Your being here mean I’m to assume that you know what’s happening? Are your associates here as well, or did we just get lucky with your company?”
