Seriously - this drama is boringly filmed, it's an office romance (a dull genre in the first place) that barely shows its leading man in the first five eps and the FL is as bland as toast soaked in water for an hour.

THIS DRAMA IS NOT EVEN BAD ENOUGH TO BE ENTERTAINING.

I'm thinking in his head, he's trying to protect both of their careers and their livelihoods, but goddamnit, it hurts to hear the one you love deny the affection and the warmth that was between you two.

I've been marinating over the whole idea that Arthur is his own bane, and the fandom's thoughts that Merlin had no sway over the outcome of that, and honestly I kinda disagree with that take.

Arthur became his own bane because Merlin and Gwen and the rest of the knights showed him love, respect, how to trust, and how to approach situations with kindness. By making him a more compassionate person they turned him into someone who would stop and not attack Mordred as soon as he stood before him, even after betraying him. He became his own bane by learning forgiveness and how to give people a second chance enough to pause when confronted by Mordred, trying to see the good in him enough for Mordred to get his hit in.

And so yeah, Merlin did have an impact, but only in the way that making someone more gentle can make it easier for the world to crush them.
