One good thing about this trip... I asked to go to my Great Gran's old house. Haven't been there for twenty years. I hate to see it having gone to hell like this. My earliest summers were spent here. No electricity, no indoor plumbing. Cold water we had to heat up in pots on the stove to take baths in an old tin tub we'd put in the middle of the kitchen. An outhouse we were too afraid to go to in the middle of the night, so we would use what they old folks call a "thunder bucket". Which is just an old 5 gallon bucket you'd pee in during the night and dump out in the morning. Lmao.

Apparently the home was over 200 years old. She paid 20 dollars a month to stay there. The home was traced back to the Lincoln's family and was a safe house for soliders during the Civil War. They are in the process of trying to make it a historical home, but from what I see, they waited way too long. I don't necessary "agree" with all of its history, but it is interesting anyways. I still remember it so vividly. My Great Gran was the sweetest woman. I miss her a lot. I feel worlds away from this lifestyle, but I feel so privileged to have had such experiences that made me appreciate the comforts in life.
