Me reading your tros reviews... like i know there was so much potential for a better movie (even a better trilogy)... but op your mind... we really couldve had it all...
hahahahaha!
I’m glad you appreciate my random typings.
The thing is…I was relatively ambivalent about the ST until they released all this wackjob Sith lore + Rey Palpatine and now it’s just like…WHY DIDN’T YOU LEAD WITH THIS? I mean, sure, keep the Rey Palpatine reveal to the end, but the rest? Could you imagine? Sitting down in the theater and the first thing you see is Kylo Ren going ham on some hapless planet. Then cut to the trio discussing where to find some Sith artifacts.
Cue, “The Force Awakens.”
It could have been perfection.
I don’t know if the Palpatine decision was something they came up with to try and salvage the wreckage of the fan wars over TLJ (likely) or if they actually planned it (less likely), but imagine the impact that scene would have had with no introduction whatsoever. Just the Senate floating in connected to a bunch of wires and Force-zombie-ing shit up.
There is so much potential in that alone.
The problem was they couldn’t quite let go of Luke, Leia, and Han. And in all honesty, the character they needed to let go of the most was Luke. He had his moment. Many of them. I love Luke, he was the reason I got into Star Wars as a teenager many moons ago, but the corporate yak-yaks needed to let it go.
“Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to.”
Say what you will about TLJ, this was the most apt line in the entire new trilogy.
Forget everything else. This could have been a way to fold in the Sith history from Plagueius, to expand on Mortis, to explain more of what we saw on Rebels, and yet they went so safe and so vanilla with the entire thing that they, in the end, pissed off almost everyone. I’m almost mad this movie came out because despite its many, many flaws, it holds the most potential for some incredible story-telling and should have been the launching-off point as the first movie, bypassing all the exposition of the first two, which could have been told as the narrative unfolded during subsequent movies.
……anyway……
