a sigh managed to slip past the author's lips as he spoke. she wasn't surprised that the two of them managed to run into each other at a mutual friend's wedding. most of their friends were just that - mutual and so this whole break up was a disaster. throwing back the alcoholic beverage, she set the glass down and eyed him for a moment. "i just don't think that it's a good idea for us to do this again."

He always felt out of place among the books like he was back in school, exposed and as if a team of ministry enforcers would jump out of each corner, that was only a part of why he made himself use the place. He needed to be calm and collected wherever he was working and it was convenient here when his personal resources or that of his department were lacking. There was something both distressing and reassuring with how deserted the place often was. He started to lose himself in an overly dry tome when he heard movement behind him and turned in that direction mind eager for the thinnest excuse of a distraction.

Things had gone so wrong. Everyone knew that. But everything felt so much heavier walking down the halls of the Magical Law Enforcement department. These were the people that were supposed to keep everyone else safe, and they had let people down. This time, a child had died. Kingsley could only imagine how Amelia was handling all of this. Everything was on her shoulders. Not only did she have to be boss, but she had to juggle law enforcement and politics, which was the last thing anyone wanted to do. Especially with a war going on.

It was after normal work hours. Kingsley had stayed late to finish his reports for that week. They were long and tiring and included a whole lot of dark wizards not being captured by the Aurors. It was disheartening for anyone to read or write, so Kingsley decided to deliver them personally. With a small preset for Amelia since she was undoubtedly stressed. He knocked on her office door three times. “It’s Kingsley ma’am. I’ve got reports and a fruit basket.”

The second Kingsley had stepped foot back onto Britsh soil, news of the Easter attacks had come swirling in. Someone was dead, many were injured, but one name that stood out to him was Amelia Bones. It was always hard to accept that even the most talented witches and wizards we’re still fragile beings, especially someone like his boss, but it was a lesson all Aurors needed to learn early on.

He decided to make his first stop St. Mungos before going home for some much-needed rest. He placed a knock on her door before entering. “You know, I was already planning on bringing gifts for the whole office. You didn’t have to end up in the hospital for a cheap souvenir.”
