early spring was the worst time of year. with the constantly shifting weather and the flowers deciding to destroy his head with headaches and allergies. the absolute worst. perhaps the only good thing about it, and april in general, was his daughter estelle’s birthday at the end of the month. perhaps he’s more happy about it than usual because he gets to have her on her birthday this year, in contrast to last year with his ex wife having her for most holidays.
he continues to pace back and forth in front of store fronts, looking at everything from clothing to toys, but he just can’t figure out what to buy. he chews at the skin around his nails idly, trying to make a decision. goodness he must look odd, especially in comparison to the mothers and their children, and couples wandering around the shopping district.
he meets eyes for a fraction of a second with a redheaded woman, who appears to be by herself. he doesn’t want to be a bother but in this situation, he feels as though he might have to ask for help. and that ex of his was certainly not going to be the one he asks.
he walks over.
“...ah.. excuse me. are you willing to.. help me out for a moment?” he asks, head tilting slightly to the side as he speaks. “... i wont be too much of a bother.. i promise.”
