trait(s) ... akai is not a gregarious person at all. he dislikes parties, loud music and socializing, even if it that is often the life of a pirate. he doesn't prohibit his crew from joining in or having festivities on their vessel, but he will often be tucked away into his cabin or further off from the crowd. if he wasn't a captain of a vessel or a pirate, he would likely be reclusive, finding contentment in solitude. of course, there are always exceptions and there are the presence of others that he welcomes and enjoys. he is meticulous, patient, calculating, and secretive. he even keeps his motives for certain decisions a secret from his crew, save for the first mate. despite this demeanor, he is bold and daring. he doesn't back down from challenges, but also knows when it's best to walk away. he is pragmatic, not reckless. he is ruthless towards his enemies and sometimes unnecessarily violent and crude in his manner of fighting and killing.

born in a small coastal village, far away from fishman island. it's not known what brought on the migration, but the people of the town were accepting of fishman and hybrids. they treated akai and his family with acceptance. its only known that his grandmother lived there, being the one to take on and provide his and his older brother's education.
their village is a part of a larger kingdom. this is where he meets his first mate, zhi hua.
kensei is the first one who decides to become captain, the original captain of the crimson reapers. which later is inherited by akai.
his motives for piracy are rooted in his love for the sea and his desire for freedom. he didn't feel suffocated by where he lived, but the land was never his home. he never felt it to be where he belonged. he aspired to be an adventurer or a researcher. [not sure yet what brought on the decision to ultimately choose to be a pirate, tbd.]
his older brother was apart of the era of the roger pirates.
akai's goals aren't directly in line with the desire to find the one piece. [still figuring this part out].
briefly, he was a warlord, but after about five years, fell off the grid. when he reemerged, he denounced himself as a warlord, and thus the bounty on his head was resumed.
possible in-world connections ... more association with earlier age pirates like roger pirates and whitebeard's crew but more so as a kid, would fit in more closely with red hair pirates, arlong's crew, jimbei, etc., but of course, as always, open to most connections.
