also, i have made a crucial error. so when i first creating iselda, i did create her in mind to be connected to ohara somehow and then, i connected her to professor clover. i forgot until very recently that his surname isn't clover, but it's 'clou'. so, in rectifying that, iselda's original surname is 'clou'. however, in homage to him, she changes her surname to 'clover'. although she met him only once as a child, her mother would tell her stories about him.

i forget if i posted here, but i decided that mavis, iselda's mother, is alive. but it's only because she never made it to ohara. following the shipwreck, it threw both women off course and both would have drowned or died of exposure if not for the intervention of other parties.

mavis' injuries were more severe, however. she suffered head trauma that would lead to temporary anterograde amnesia and thus far, permanent retrograde amnesia. she has patches of memory intact from her life previous, but not anything that can be put together to remember enough. thus, the information she held regarding the void century is lost somewhere in her memories.

she had a travel log that was lost in the wreck her and iselda suffered that separated them. in there would be the last place they traveled to before going to ohara, which would detail the findings that urged her to travel to the island. iselda would also know this information. [will build on that later].

i was thinking that maybe mavis is somehow with vegapunk because he would be trying treatments to extract her memory / exercises that would encourage her to remember her past as well as the void century information she knows. but, that's something i have yet to figure out.

she remembers she has a daughter, but she can't remember anything else about iselda. so, if she were to see her, she would not recognize her.

the patron saint of those who died to be like you. maybe you died to be like them too: but at the end of it, you weren't like them. patron saint of tragedy. saint of saints. it's you who holds the hands of the holy dead, and you who has to answer: what do they do if they regretted it?

iselda ... patron saint of bones.

patron saint of frameworks. of structures. of solidity. patron saint of things that break. patron saint of things that are left behind. the bones survive long after the body, the building: what is there left for them, when the rest has gone? what do bones do, with nothing to hold around them? who holds the bones?

i often think about iselda's fighting style. with her prosthetic having so many settings built in for long range weapons and close range use, i think that her weaponry is versatile and that aids her when it comes to fighting against a variety of enemies.

i don't think though she has an elegance or finesse to her fighting though. like... say, sanji or lucci --- i think they're good examples of fighters who have this elegance and grace to the way they fight. lucci has a beast like quality to his combat due to the nature of his zoan, but there's something graceful about his movements. [ to me, at least, when i watch ].

iselda, on the other hand, is a heavy-handed fighter. she's relying more on the brutality of her power and a relentless barrage of punches. she doesn't utilize many kicks, moreso for dodging and pivoting, but she's very much a fist fighter. i think that she would rank lower on technique but high in stamina.

weapon-wise, i think her favored weapon is a bow and arrow. she could technically just use her prosthetic to shoot, but she also likes manually using a weapon. but, she doesn't rely on these to carry her through battle, which is why she's done lots of training to also be effective in close range combat.

band au ... clover d. iselda.

iselda's mom was a musician before her and would often take her on the road on all her vacations from school, cultivating within her a love for music. when it was time for school, she would stay with her dad. her parents never married and while they loved each other, never really committed in the sense of a traditional relationship, but successfully co-parented.

her mom wasn't a major celebrity but has what would be considered a cult following.

while iselda wanted to drop out at sixteen to pursue music, her parents urged her to stay in school. she eventually graduated early and actually took college courses, majoring in a degree in music. (specific field tbd).

during her time in college, she would often go to underground music clubs of all sorts. while she frequented the punk scene, iselda had a wide variety of interests and would clubs that hosted other music like jazz, funk, new wave, etc.

sometimes, she would be recognized by some of the scouts or older musicians that know her mom, and would be offered opportunities. while she was proud of her mom's career, she also wanted to branch out on her own and find a sound that was hers.

eventually, she would join a few bands/projects, subbing in for bass or drums. she played a variety of genres and had even gone on the road with bigger names for experience.

she also creates a lot of her bands' merch and merch for other bands. she loves sketching and has made shirts, totes, pins, posters, album covers, etc.

her first serious commitment was with the band, WOUND; an all girl's rock/funk band. they had an eclectic sound but often infused elements of funk in their music.

after some time (tbd), she leaves the band on good terms.

she takes this time apart to enjoy the freedom of travel on her own.

one night, at a show she attends, she watches drucilla (@/foolisheart) perform, captivated by her stage presence and her music. they later strike up a friendship and eventually become a band together.

shipwright au ... most of the early part of iselda's lore still takes place but instead of ending up at the village, she is picked up by a ship on its way to water 7 for repairs. upon bringing her there, she's nursed back to health and is in a coma for a month. as she recuperates, her memories come and go. even after receiving the reports about ohara and nico robin, it takes a while for her memories to come back in full. navy ships and personnel come and go on water 7 and from there, she gathers information here and there. it's later that she meets franky and gradually befriends him, that she learns more about the government's corruption. as she lives on water 7, she apprentices and becomes a shipwright, and is later absorbed into Galley-LA. it seems fate would bring her and nico robin together, as she is still there when the strawhats arrive and joins the rescue team to enies lobby. from there, she sails off with the strawhats and becomes a part of their crew. [ however, i'm open to plotting a different outcome to post-enies lobby! another option, i thought of is she sails out on her own, continuing her mother's dream to sail the world in exploration on her own and later on joins the revolutionary army in pursuit of her other motivations to seek the truth about ohara. ]

haikyuu au ... iselda was a transfer student in japan and joined the shiratorizawa team. after graduating, she travels abroad and pursues other passions. however, she's called to coach/mentor the students, and she travels back to japan. she becomes a mentor to ushijima.

medieval au ... a knight serving as a weaponized arm of the land's royal family known as the celestial dragons. unbeknownst to iselda, she is the prophesied heir to the throne. this had been thwarted when she was a child when usurpers overthrew the last ruler and took in iselda as a young child, brainwashing her into becoming their knight instead of doing away with her. believing the celestial dragons to be divinity, she continues to do their bidding unquestioningly.

modern au ... an investigative journalist who endeavors to uncover corruption, greed, and unlawful practices from large corporations to cutting through governmental red tape.

detective au ... spurned on to join the academy and become a detective after her mother's disappearance, iselda is the headache of the precinct. often using out of the box and unorthodox methods in order to get results. however because of her stats of closed cases and captured criminals, she remains on the force. [good for crime prodecural/crime based verses/fandoms/ocs.]

jjk au ... born overseas in a commune of sorcerers, but later discovered to have zero cursed energy and instead wields immense physical strength and fortitude, able to withstand injury after injury. trained in combat all the same, she grows up within the sorcerer’s community. during a battle with a cursed spirit alongside her mother, her arm becomes infected by the spirit’s technique, but she slices it off herself before it can take root in her body. her left arm is now a prosthetic, fashioned with a function to detect cursed spirits and able to use that in tandem with weapons imbued with cursed energy. her backstory is not fixed in japan, but in-world she can be flexibly placed anywhere. while i don’t see her working for any of the schools, she can be an ally to any of the sorcerers.
