This time of year was stressful for Bambi while she didn't mind most of the lights and the cheer, it was everything else that seemingly went hand in hand with the holiday season. It caused an uptick in violent crimes so that meant longer hours at the lab, the cold season that often had her in bed for weeks, and finally just the lack of family for so many years that made her mood quite cranky. This year was different for so many reasons though, this year her family was together and she was getting to gather them for at least a dinner or gift exchange of some kind; and she wasn't alone romantically either ( well not in an official relationship just seeing where those big feelings go ). Laying out the nice tablecloth and setting the place mats for two, Bambi eyed the dinner table with a careful look- smiling as it past her test. She was excited and nervous to have Alice over for a little holiday dinner, something at least before she chucked her in with her family; plus it gave her a chance to impress with her cooking skills. As the doorbell rang she rushed forward, nearly tripping over herself to get it. "I'm coming!" Bambi called giving Cujo a ruffle as she past his head and opened the door. "You look- There honestly aren't enough words to tell you how amazing you look, come on in."

Without a second thought, Mary drops to the curb - no matter the fact that they’d come to a full stop just outside a busy pub - purse plopped down upon the road and petite hands set to rifling through the abyss that was the inside of her bag. “Hold on!” she cried, just tipsy enough to be speaking louder than was warranted, “I’ll buy you chicken nuggets, Alice! Don’t worry. Help is on the way.”

The  light  outside  bled  a  warm  hum  through  the  blinds,  bathing  the  room  in  color  that  made  everything  feel  softer  than  it  really  was.  Bambi  sat  cross-legged  on  the  carpet  with  a  half-dead  cigarette  balanced  between  her  fingers  and  an ashtray  beside  her,  the  air  thick  with  smoke,  perfume,  and  the  dry  desert  heat  sneaking  in  through  the  cracked  window.  Somewhere  outside,  Vegas  kept  breathing  loud  and  ugly;  slot  machines  ringing  from  somewhere  on  the  strip,  tires  screeching  out,  somebody  laughing  too  hard  at  a  joke  that  wasn't  funny.  She’d  been  pretending  to  watch  some  infomercial  with  the  sound  low  for  the  last  twenty  minutes,  but  really  she’d  just  been  waiting  for  Alice  to  show  up  like  she  always  did;  sudden,  magnetic,  impossible  to  ignore.  Bambi  glanced  toward  the  door  at  every  little  sound  in  the  hallway,  trying  to  act  like  she  wasn’t  counting  seconds.  Real  subtle.  Academy  Award  performance,  honestly. When  the  knock  finally  came,  she  smiled  before  she  could  stop  herself.  “Door’s  open!”  she  called,  voice  rough  from  smoke  and  lack  of  sleep,  leaning  back  against  the  edge  of  the of her couch like  she  hadn’t  spent  the  last  hour  thinking  about  what  she’d  say  when  Alice  got  there.  The  living  room  lamp  cast  gold  across  her  skin  and  the  faded  cherry-red  slip  dress  she’d  thrown  on  in  a  hurry;  making  her  look  put  together  in  the  same  way  Vegas  tried  to  look  glamorous  from  far  away.  “You’re  late,”  Bambi  teased  as  Alice  stepped  inside,  though  there  wasn’t  any  real  bite  to  it.  There  never  really  was  with  her.  “I  was  starting  to  think  you  found  somebody  prettier  to  ruin  your  life  with.”

Alice wandered through the market, looking around with her hand on her stomach. She'd lost sight of Oz a while ago and wasn't very happy about it. "That damned manservant, running off like that." In truth, she was the one who separated from him, following the scent of freshly roasted meat that wafted through the air. Her stomach growled loudly as she slowed her steps to a halt. Her amethyst eyes were locked onto the ground at her feet, a scowl furrowing her brows. "Meat..."
