the sky has been wrought by ominous grey clouds for what feels like an endless day & night, now, foreboding the impending offer of the heavens opening up with unsympathetic rain - fate does not disappoint. eliza kardel is drenched by the time she rolls into limpany - she’d expected to be able to ride on through, but even the most stubborn of her own wits can recognize that her horse is exhausted & she is close to a chill-induced hypothermia. she stables the animal & makes a run for the closest building with distinguishable light coming from the windows.
only after entering does eliza realize how long it’s been since she’s been in a church - unsure of whether to place the chill down her spine as a higher power or simply the feeling of finally being sheltered from the rain. when she sees someone approaching, she removes her hat & holds it over her heart, offering a meager wave. “i, ah - hi. i’m sorry, th’rain was gettin’ so bad an’ the doors were unlocked - i jus’ ... stepped in for a moment.”
