While Daphne may not have been thrilled about her own prospects that evening, she couldn’t have been more excited for her dear friend Drusilla Prince-White.
She had just known that there was something special about her, and it was reassuring to have confirmation that others saw it too. In her humble opinion, there had been no one more deserving of the honor of being the diamond of the season, and Daphne had been looking forward to the girl’s debut for years in anticipation of this very evening.
Dru looked stunning, suitors had been staring (at Dru, not her), and Daph was already looking ahead to the girl’s inevitable wedding, provided that one of the suitors proved to be good enough for the most kindhearted of them all.
So overall a decent night. There was just one thing that still needed to be done.
An actual greeting of the girl she’d been happily watching over almost all evening.
“Good evening, diamond,” she started with a grin, swooping in when she’d looked up to find that Drusilla was alone. “I do hope that you’ve been having a lovely evening.”
