THE HARRY POTTER AU ft. not a wizard adam.
a prideful muggle prince, adam was known best for hosting galas as lovely as he — rather, they were as golden as he seemed to appear, although invitations were coveted by all & given to but a select few. beyond his extravagant parties, the prince lived a life filled with fleeting lovers & luxury; those things would one day damn him.
he knew not of magic before it all went downhill, but his awakening was harsh & painful.
of his many brief love affairs, one had been with a witch, although he had never known. perhaps she was jealous, or perhaps she simply saw through fair looks & charming smiles. she arrived at one of those parties & had he known the trouble she’d cause, then perhaps he’d have taken better precautions. finding himself at the wrong end of her wand, she laid a curse upon him, turning his life upside-down & forcing him into a world he had never known before. she told him she could tell that he could not love anyone but himself & had managed to turn him into, well, what he could only describe as a chimera from the greek myths he’d read as a child. his options were to remain imprisoned in his castle, forgotten by all but his servants ( now turned into objects ), or to venture into an unfamiliar, but perhaps more accepting world.
while the majority of the curse had gone over his head, he gathered that it could be broken should he learn to love another & earn their love in return ( although, that still sounded incredibly vague ). choosing to travel into this unknown world of magic, he was granted a way to return home every so often, an act of mercy upon a condemned soul.
NOTES.
adam is a literal mess, he has no idea about anything in the wizarding world, & to all that encounter him, that’s incredibly clear. most wizards & witches also are aware that he’d under a curse, which is likely why he’s even in this unfamiliar world.
the people of the muggle world were wiped of their memories of him & those memories would not return unless he managed to break the curse. there’s no magic rose , he’s just. having a bad time trying to figure things out . who knows how long he’s been traveling back & forth ... ( as in , it works in any era )
similarly to the main canon, his servants are still objects until the curse is broken. much of this verse will also draw on elements from robin mckinley’s rose daughter, as it’s pretty clear that if people know about magic, they’re likely way more accepting than those who have no idea. this also means that adam at least calms down more quickly, but that doesn’t mean he’s not confused & desperate.
the enchantress did create a place for him to live in the wizarding world, hidden away from most, but not impossible to find. there, he does tend to a garden of roses, but there are no servants, forcing him to learn to fend for himself.
