After a rough practice that morning, Lorelei was beginning to question many of her recent choices in life. She’d slowed down the frequency of her solo routine rehearsals in favor of attempting to be a good partner again, but if their most recent practice had told her anything, it was that reaching out an olive branch to bring back some former magic was for suckers. What had she been thinking?
When she’d said the girl Ian had skated with in the past was dead and buried, she’d meant the feelings of that girl, not the pair skating talent. Her body had seemingly decided otherwise, though, and no matter what their swizzles were just not syncing up. It was incredibly frustrating, and Marilynn no doubt had felt those emotions radiating off of her. Their coach had called for an early end to their practice and that was that. She was left to tromp towards the exit, bad mood setting in for at least the rest of the day.
Lore was bitterly snapping on her skate guards when she glanced over to her new-old partner, deciding then and there that Ian must have been on the same page as her. How could he not be? And while things were definitely still weird between the two of them, what was some ranting between partners?
“I thought we had fixed this,” she groaned. “Did we always suck this bad? Did we just hallucinate being a good pair in 2016? Because we can’t even get the swizzles right, and those are swizzles.”
