If it were up to me, Jojo’s Situationship Saga would be taught in seminars, studied, and upheld as peak television for anyone interested in the medium. GayOk, Friend Zone, Only Friends, and now Girl Rules, they’re all masterclasses in contemporary dialogue, conflicted characterization, and post-modern storytelling. You will be endlessly frustrated with these hypocritical self-sabatoging characters and the vicious cycles they refuse to leave, you will be unable to stand at least one character in the series entirely, and the endings will always feel like a let down because they’re so dedicated to the realistic meaninglessness and casual cruelty of people’s choices in digital age dating and friendship. And they have my whole fucked-up heart for how honestly they pursue that vision.
