barely contained behind her small smile she feels her heart climbing up the back of her throat . in the flesh , right here , standin’ mere feet from herself was none other than teddy flood . her daddy was sure he was gone for good this time , ( he had a mighty bad habit of scarin’ him off when he came by , always sure it was the last time ) , off doin’ what he does , what he won’t tell her , what he thinks might scare her off , but dolores knew , she knew he wouldn’t o’ left her like that . she reaches out between them and pulls the can from his grasp , their fingers brushinglightly . ❝ you came back .  ❞ i knew you would.
