             “you really need to ask ??” she snorts, joints cracking as she stretches her arms above her head. “your mouth happened.” jack’s ability to talk utter shit had been apparent from the first time she’d met him. the first time she’d heard the ominous threats made in the hallway of halfway to nowhere. whether he got off on getting under people’s skin or simply enjoyed the sound of his own voice, the vampire was quite the wordsmith. 

             after their last encounter, max had hoped to avoid ever seeing him again. two against one had been unfair odds. especially when ambushed. but this was different; he almost seemed happy to see her. like he knew she’d at least put up a fight. and the challenges had seemingly rolled off his tongue just as quickly as the last time. at least now, she was on her own turf. 

           the ring was her second home. every fight within it was tactical, it channelled every fibre of the anger that she kept buried and turned it into something useful. in the ring, she barely felt when the punches landed, when her bones broke. it was a frenzy; adrenaline taking over. and having a do-over, the opportunity to show this vamp that she wasn’t just some weak little pup that was easy to break...yeah it didn’t take much to convince her. “so are we doing this, or are you just going to stand there and look pretty ??” max raises her brow, a wicked grin splitting across her features, as she beckons for him to attack.

         she has failed. that’s all she knows for sure. in this stupid task, in this demand made of her. she has utterly, completely failed. and now....well she doesn’t know if the nightkeeper really has the power to take her success from her but she knows she’s sure as hell not taking the alternative. a grimace clouds her expression as she eyes the punchbowl, before draining her whiskey. she’s on her way to being drunk, needing the buzz to cover the shame of her failure. and the sting of knowing she’d nearly hurt that asshole demon on someone else’s orders. she blinks back the fresh memories. the look on haylee’s face; so desperate. and evanora....damn, if max makes it through tonight without facing her wrath she’ll be lucky. 

                  what else does she have left to stay for ?? she’ll have to face the consequences whether she sticks around to keep putting on a brave face or not. letting out a low sigh, max abandons her glass on a passing waiter’s tray and makes her way towards the door.

          she is, somewhat, surprised to see the so-called ripper fail at his round. but then again, humans were not to be underestimated. they often had a fight in them that she had not seen in any other faction. this mac rhys character certainly held that same fervor. she had already made a mental note to introduce herself to him - intrigued to see if he would continue to be entertaining outside of the ring. but those sentiments were for a later date, in this moment her attention was focused on locating her fellow vizier. 

      she spots his rather more bloodied frame, taking a seat no longer among the champions, and makes her way over. “don’t tell me you’re over here licking your wounds, jackie darling ??” the brunette sighs, sliding into the seat beside him. a feeder trails at her heels, as one always does, and she gestures for them to sit on his other side. “don’t pout, i brought you a consolation prize.”
