            “i take it there’s been no luck in finding the commander ??” she asks the question, despite knowing the answer. if they had found him, they’d be parading his head around on a spike. since the explosion, the fervour for revenge has been rife amongst her kind. particularly, understandably, teddy. “pity. i’m sure he’ll poke his head out of whatever hole he’s in soon enough.”

        why the overlord and her progeny had felt the need to follow the commander’s wild goose chase, she did not know. but she had already begun to feel the consequences of such actions. worrying was not something fallon did lightly - in fact, she rarely did it at all. she enjoyed a life that was unpredictable and chaotic. she enjoyed having little to care about. it meant there was little to lose. 

            but teddy. he was one of the few things that meant something to her. and kazimir...while she couldn’t say he mattered on a personal level - she could really give or take the man - he mattered to her position. her power. she needed him alive. 

      so she worried. a feeling that she loathed and buried under a mask of irritation and haughtiness. and she made her way to the godforsaken coordinates that the commander had provided them. once she was close enough, she would use the location that teddy had sent her to narrow down their whereabouts - unless by some chance the calvary had arrived and jessie had already rescued them. 

     chaos. that’s the first thing she sees on arriving at the human’s old hideout. fire, blood, remnants of buildings and bodies alike. then, a man - waiting on the precipice - wavering. “malcolm.” the vampire says curtly, moving towards him. “what are you doing ??”

          puzzles and games. they could be fun, entertaining, engaging - she herself was quite partial to a battle of wits. but on her ground, her terms. not like this, not with him as puppeteer. the first act had certainly held her attention, a rather maudlin representation of what ?? the struggle between light and dark, good and evil...the naturals and the sorcerers ?? she cares little for their squabbles or whatever metaphor the commander has intended. the piece that matters most is this puzzle. this lock to unpick to move to the next act. why ?? what was its purpose ?? 

             a distraction ?? from what ??

    as much as she resents taking any direction from demitri, his call is the right one. the commander must be watched. and there is some grace in the fact that it came as a request rather than an undignified order. if she is to watch axel, and demitri has the others covered, he will need help with the overlord’s wayward little pet. since her progeny had taken such a liking to the same human, she doubts he’ll mind playing babysitter. 

            “teddy, darling-” fingers curl around his forearm, voice light and whimsical for any prying ears ( though those that knew her well would note the urgency underlying her tone ). “there you are.”
