Life to Lucius was an easy start and will most likely end just as easy. He is an only child, born to Abraxas Malfoy who was a well-respected philanthropist and respected council in the magical community. His mother died in childbirth and was known to be a darling housewife and doting friend to those who knew her. It wasn’t shocking to anyone that growing up with Abraxas was a life filled with rules, but nothing that Lucius wouldn’t step up to. No muggleborn or half blood friends. No mixing with wizards who believe that equality is coming. Make the world a better place- or die trying. He never stepped out of line, never threatened boundaries and always had enough money to cover up the pieces of buildings falling. Hogwarts came just as easy to Lucius as living with his father did. Everyone knew who he was, where he would be sorted and who he would turn into. All the heir needed was to live up to it. He wasn’t a bully- but he made his points very clear. Step in the way of anything that Lucius wanted or did, and you would be at the bad end of a hex. Many would say that things ended for Lucius when it came to a personality. His temper was short, his humor dry and his lack of empathy came off as simply lack of emotion. It wasn’t that simply- but nothing for a Malfoy was. He was raised fighting for a cause and he wasn’t going to let that go because someone wanted to be his friend or use him for his money. He was Lucius Malfoy and he was going to be as such. While the idea of living the simple life of just giving money to the occasional charity sounded nice, Lucius had trouble keeping himself still. So, he went to law school immediately after Hogwarts. It was a way to keep appearances clean while being able to make a change from within. It was his father’s decision to have Lucius take the mark. While he was fully behind it and stood for the cause, he was never sure just how useful he could be in the face of the war- then he was. He proved to be the most useful of all, but defending them in court when things would hit the fan. In an effort to stay low and noticeable, Lucius took a junior position right out of law school. He has some of the top clients in the country due to his last name and the dark mark on his arm. He is solmonely aware that he didn’t earn his quick success but at this point he couldn’t even be mad. He was on the fact track to being head of the Magical Law department.

It was the darkest day of the year when Bellatrix was born, quite literally and figuratively. December 21st, 1951. Cygnus and Druella weren’t entirely sure what to expect, being first time parents and raised in households that didn’t discuss much, but it was still shocking when the first daughter came out, screamed and then silenced herself within a five minute period. That’s how it started and the parents simply assumed that the child would be a meek, quiet thing that would need raising with a strong hand to ensure that she wouldn’t back down when the time came to be a strong figure in pureblood society. That strong hand never came. Growing up, Bellatrix was raised by various nannies who never bothered to tell her their name and she never bothered to ask. Bella stayed quiet, just not quite in the way that either parent was expecting. She never interacted with children her own age and always seemed to seek out older children or adults who would assist her in getting what she wanted. She was always able to find the most important person in the room and make them her best friend. It was easy for Cygnus and Druella to say she was an easy child because she somehow came preprogrammed with the socialite rulebook. Much didn’t change when the first younger sister came along, other than some tensions running high with the second girl. Everyone, including Bellatrix assumed she would be the only girl, so when the second one came screaming in, the room seemed to stay silent. She accepted the little sister with open arms, teaching her everything she knew like who were the best elves to ask for things when their parents weren’t around to snap at them and which nannies wouldn’t check on you if you didn’t sleep for your nap. And that’s how Bellatrix operated all the way up to Narcissa’s birth. This is exactly what you have to do to make your life even easier. Narcissa shocked the family. 3/3 in girls and the eldest knew there was officially a problem now. At the crisp age of 7, even Bella understood that this was officially their life now and she was going to have to act a certain way. She started attending parties with her mother and didn’t leave her side. She’d stayed silent and smile, making nice with those who noticed her and stayed invisible to those who didn’t. She read every magical book her father could hand her to ensure that she would not only be ahead by the time she walked through the doors but she would be on top. She practiced spells with old wands from family members who have since passed to get the motions perfectly. If she was going to be the heir, she was going to do it well and she was going to be remembered for being the best. Her Hogwarts years came in and went in a flash, graduating top of the class and bettering her social circle and exactly how she ran it from the day she walked out. Bellatrix refused to be remembered as the one Black daughter who was handed everything. She was the Black daughter that ran everything. She took the mark only days after her graduation and there isn’t an answer to whether she took it because she believed in the cause or if her parents thought she should get it. She just got the mark, and put herself next to the most important person in the room- The Dark Lord. Bellatrix would like to think that Andromeda’s leaving affected her, but honestly, it didn’t and she probably should have seen it from a mile away. Andi was the first disappointment to come in a string of let downs for a family that had only seen good days, of course things were put on her that Bella could not and would not ever imagine. That being said, she feels no real sympathy for the middle child. It only proves that pressure placed on children is to prove who is worthy of what’s to come and who isn’t. Years come and go, rumors fly that Bellatrix is the right hand woman to the Dark Lord and she just lets it ride. She puts her free time into pouring her family’s money into different causes that make it seem like she is nothing more than a rich philanthropist who has nothing better to do, flashing her mark and dark eyes to those to consider turning her money and presence away.

May 7th,1960. That’s when Richard and Lucy were handed their small swallowed baby girl and were granted to go home to their new life. First time parents who were overly confident that they could- and would provide everything that she would ever need to be happy and successful. And that’s exactly what they did. The two lawyers ( Lucy thought that she was very ahead of her time actually attending college and pushing her way through the law degree. She obviously retired as soon as she had Mary, but she pushed through! ) raised Mary to be a kind, uplifting person who always knew what to say to get her way. Usually, that meant money. Mary always knew that no matter what room she stepped into, she could buy exactly what she wanted. The rituals of a young socialite came and went through the years and Mary never once lost sight of what she was raised to remember. If they can’t remember your name- make them remember your bank account. There was never a day that the child didn’t look she had taken even a breath out of place. She always looked like she walked straight off of a magazine page and into the real world. There were always little quirks that made her different, but they always seemed to somehow make the children even better. A cup of tea that was milliseconds from dropping was pushed further into your hand, her hair never looked a touch out of place and she could read without touching the pages it seemed. There was nothing strange about Mary MacDonald- she was perfect. And that continued straight up to the day that she got her letter. May 7th, 1971. That’s when the letter was placed gently through the mail slot and that’s when Mary’s world changed. She’ll never know if she can truly say it was changed for the better or not, but it was changed. Her parents gave her the same saying they always did, like it was actually good advice. ‘ If they can’t remember their name- make them remember your bank account. ‘ And that’s exactly what she tried to do. She walked into Hogwarts on the first day, in the nicest robes a witch could buy, a cat that seemingly sparkled and brand new text books that gleamed in the natural light. All of the best things that Mary could walk into, and it still wasn’t enough. She, wasn’t enough. Hogwarts was filled with memories that Mary will clutch to her chest and days that she wished she would’ve just walked out and gone back to normal. She found her home in Herbology and Potions. Slipping away at any free study moment to surround herself by plants and elements that had to be just perfect to make something life changing. The ward seemed to be something that Mary could hid from in school- she was separated enough from those on the front lines that she never wanted to think to hard about it in front of other people. She found herself thinking about it though- alone- under her covers while she wrote letters to her parents, trying to convince them that it was normal to go months without hearing from someone, they shouldn’t worry, just let her reach out when she can. Don’t find her. Don’t find her. Its been three months now since Voldemort and Dumbledore vanished and Mary feels as though its a gloves off style fight now. She survives by weekly trips to a local nursery shop that allows her to volunteer her time for a small salary- a muggle shop and surrounding herself by those she trusts. She doesn’t stay gone too long, never writes too much in letters and always expressing her feelings then - just in case. Just in case.
