okay. chapter lore posting for the Ouroboros Sanguine :}
(i'll be honest i'm copy pasting what i wrote in my design doc for the lovely soosmain so it's my thoughts but probably jumbled and not very cohesive, so pls feel free to come into my inbox and ask questions)
the Ouroboros Sanguine are a Blood Angel successor chapter. homeworld is a desert planet in a very low populated system, either a full death world or a feral world. they get along with the nomadic people who live there, but tend to stay to their fortress-monastery unless needed for various disputes. they’d kinda been forgotten about/put on the backburner by most wider forces before Guilliman’s returning crusade tbh, and work in tandem with the worlds of their star system getting resources and aspirants in exchange for the chapter’s protection of them from various threats.
love their dreadnoughts, and love their death company. both are revered in the chapter, even if death company isn’t talked about. they’re seen as having a higher connection to their father sanguinius in the beyond; dreadnoughts being a link between them and their father, and the death company being divine vessels of his rage.
the sons of the ouroboros sanguine do unfortunately have a pretty significant geneflaw in that drinking large amounts of blood that isn’t that of a Blood Angel Astartes causes some bad shit to happen. because of this, chapter brothers tend to feed on each other in minimal amounts throughout the day to keep the thirst sated. injured brothers will also often receive blood transfusions from their close squad members, which tightens their ties even more. also something something “group bonding but as, like, ritual bleeding”.
apothecaries are extra appreciated because they give so much blood for their chapter brothers, and even dreadnoughts are included in this process with special filters in their chassis that the blood of the ouroboros sanguine passes through. enrichment for them cause they get to spend time awake and with their brothers.
staying pure with the blood of sanguinius causes them to not turn into the same monsters in the tower of amareo, and also helps to stave off the red thirst a lot better they’ve noticed! on the other hand, if they drink too much non-BA blood, that geneflaw in the ouroboros sanguine rapidly accelerates said transformation into one of those crazy blood monsters that are kept in the tower. because of this, they only take from each other, or another son of sanguinius if really desperate. if this son of sanguinius refuses to help them for whatever reason, then they may be forced to take more drastic measures.
they’re aware that it makes them look really stuck up when they refuse human blood or even that of another astartes legion, but they’re also very aware of what will happen to them and keep it secret for fear of their chapter being exterminated. most brothers would rather die than take blood that isn’t sanguinius’; even though the change truly begins with large amounts, it’s a big religious thing for them as well.
if a brother does begin to mutate to this, chaplains + librarians will work together to induce the rage in the rapidly transforming corrupted brothers. chaplains speak zealous words to invoke the image/sacrifice of sanguinius and the librarians employ psyker shenanigans to attack the mind. when they get driven into said rage, the chaplains put them into the death company to have an honourable death. when they get let loose on the battlefield, chaplains also sound a death whistle upon their release, as they believe it to sound like sanguinius’ final screams.
they do show up to help dante and the blood angels at the devastation of baal and the chapter is nearly wiped out like many others who came to help, but they live on and eventually get primaris reinforcements.
