*.・゚ MGA SEASON 5 PRELIMINARIES // part five: the second skill.
i’m a mess :: 0:00 - 0:53
aisha really wants to nap.
however, she decides against it ( because who knows how she’ll manage to get herself up ). instead, she grabs a protein bar and a steaming coffee with an extra shot of espresso ( not the best combination, admittedly ) and checks her phone, responding quietly to messages and well wishes from friends and family.
her nerves don’t ease whatsoever. however, when she’s told the last portion of the audition, she lets out a small sigh of relief. she was hoping for a chance like this-- and she had something in mind already. she was excited.
she stretches briefly as her music is queued up, glad she decided to go with kickboxing when the interviewer asked her to show something earlier-- it helped her get some movement going, so she’s not nearly as nervous as she would have been.
she straightens up once the staff member nods at her, and then immediately drops down into a crouch, propping her head up on one hand.
aisha thinks back to the practices she had held with jei, specifically the day she asked for help making this specific choreography. having both an interest in hip hop and contemporary dance after her parents had signed her up for lessons, aisha had grown fond of mixing the two together. not that she’d ever admit it to anyone aloud, but she wasn’t quite confident creating full choreographies on her own yet, as much as she likes to spend extra time in the studio just freestyling any which way after her initial cardio set.
everything’s been so messed up here lately
pretty sure he don’t wanna be my baby
this is a piece she likes particularly, as it’s one that she contributed a lot to even though her cousin created the base and the core, and guided her through cleaning up and finishing the moves all the way through.
and so she performs with the thought of that day in mind, after she’d spent the whole day practicing it and watching herself on camera to see which parts she could improve, which parts she could alter to make it look the best, to make it look the most effortless.
everything’s gonna be alright, everything’s gonna be okay
the expression wasn’t as hard, as the emotion for this particular choreography was well demonstrated with aisha’s resting poker face. but jei had coached her through some areas where she should be stronger, and areas where she should be softer.
so she dances with those in mind too.
i’m a mess, i’m a loser, i’m a hater i’m a user
--
i’m a mess for your love, it ain’t new
she slows down once the staff indicates, coming to a stop and straightening up. she brushes stray hairs away from her mouth and fixes her bangs, and showcases a smile at both the judges and the camera-- that was really fun.
“thank you for your time,” aisha tells them, bowing one final time before gathering her belongings and leaving out the door she is directed through.
*.・゚ MGA SEASON 5 PRELIMINARIES // part three: the interview.
the process is going much quicker than aisha had expected.
however, she could possibly attribute that to the fact that her mind and body were very confused from the perpetual struggle of her body and outward appearance remaining completely calm any time ( just in case of cameras ) and her brain completely freaking out over this. and it's not like aisha hasn't gone through auditions before, ( for band spots, for her high school, for various small groups and other purposes ) but this is the very first audition which is going to be broadcast on television, and where she's surrounded by many more people than she's used to. it's big.
as much as she doesn't want to get her hopes up, aisha is determined to make an impression. she's less concerned with whether the impression she leaves is good or bad, and more with whether or not it's strong-- impactful. leave her to be remembered until she's able to do even more.
and that's the thought in the forefront of her mind as she is led to yet another room and directed to sit in front of a camera. and it takes every part of her not to stiffen up automatically-- she's used to this. she likes pictures, she likes cameras, likes being in front of the camera. she can do this.
so she's visibly relaxed and poised as people bustle around her, touch up her makeup, and suddenly, the interviewer is in front of her and the camera light is on.
q. " short and simple, first, please introduce yourself to the viewers. "
"heo yoorim," she answers without a beat, brushing her hair nonchalantly over her shoulder, "19 years old, and a third year attending this school actually! i go by both yoorim and aisha-- though aisha is more of a name i use on social media and such. it was a nickname my friends gave me because it was cute," she grins, leaning forward gently and resting her arms on her crossed legs.
q. " nice to meet you, yoorim. we noticed on your profile that you listed a season four contestant as your cousin, would she happen to be one of your influences? do you have any other musical influences? "
aisha brightens up noticeably at this question, straightening up in her seat, back touching the backrest as she nods immediately. "jei unnie is definitely one of my biggest influences. not just musically-- she's been there for a large part of my life, and has given me endless advice and watching her and being around her-- i would say she's probably my strongest role model at the moment," she states confidently, polished nails tapping against her knee idly. "as for specifically musical influences... i love niki's music-- her style is pretty unique. performance wise, i liked global icon and lc9 a lot."
q. " those are popular groups. is there any particular reason you're hoping to become an idol? "
at this, aisha hesitates just slightly, fingers stalling their rhythmic tapping as she purses her lips in thought. "i wouldn't say there's a specific reason... it's just that music is already something i have a lot of interest in, and i would love to see where my effort takes me," she says firmly. "i also am attracted to the idea of fame," she says shamelessly, "but mostly because i hope to be influential too, like my cousin was to me, and like artists are to people are all over the world. i want to be someone that can be looked up to, someone who can inspire other people too. that's the biggest thing."
