her cousin in law and brother are going to drive éowyn to madness. it seems not a day after the wedding has gone by wherein éowyn has not spotted lothíriel and éomer gazing longingly at the each other when they thought no one was able to see. it is a shame for both of them that sister and cousin know their counterparts well enough to see the pining that lingers there. faramir has been sent to try and talk some sense into éomer, as éowyn has tried and failed, while she has decided to try and test the waters with her new relation.

"walk with me?" she offers little options, linking her good arm with with lothíriel's as soon as she has found her. it would be good to remember to try and gentle her more blunt natures about this situation, even if she wishes to be out with it and tell the other woman that éomer is just as enamored with her as she is him ; that would likely scare her away, though, and that is the last thing éowyn wants.

the arrival of the lady of the moon had been treated with great suspicion by many in emyn arnen. her reputation moved before her, and éowyn herself cannot pretend there is not some distrust in such a shadowed and magical figure after what they have all endured at the hands of some shade of magic not very long ago. the war is long over, yes - - - elboron does not know war, and that fact allows éowyn to sleep well at night - - - but it would be all too easy for the world to become consumed once more should someone become too enamored with the stuff. it is a power easily corrupted.

all of that does not mean she will be inhospitable to their guest and her retinue. "i hope the quarters are to your liking," the white lady of ithilien smiles, "and i apologize for the absence of the prince. if he had heard word of your arrival before his departure he would have remained." faramir had ridden several days ago to aid the elves who have taken up residence in their lands and is not marked to return for several more still, "i have sent word to him and am sure he will return swiftly."

"you will not want to continue that way," she has pulled her horse to a stop and looks down from where she sits astride the saddle, looking first to the other on the road and then back the way it seems he was heading. one hand remains on the reins, the other still in a sling held close to her ribcage - - - healing is a slow process, one that is still dragging on. in truth she likely should not be venturing so far out from the houses of healing yet but the itching need to be out of bed or a chair had nearly overtaken her mind. the fresh air will do her well.

"the road is not clear," éowyn offers a taut-lipped smile, the sort that comes with speaking of war even if it is over. she is on the way to check progress of moving debris and repairing damage for want of something to do, "i am afraid it would be easier to take the longer way around."

     “do you still wish to go riding with me this morning?” her smile is a soft one, one that seems to make her face glow warm from the inside out ; éowyn gives her smiles more freely these days than any before, but this one is special, reserved primarily for her son. fingers card some loose hairs from his temple back into the rest and she turns her head to look out the window at the early morning sun, rising from where she has stooped beside his bed to wake him with gentle words.

     ”we ought to have a good breakfast and then be on our way if you do - - - léofwine is used to an early ride, and we would not want to keep our horses waiting.” it has become part of her daily rituals to go for a ride early, before half the home has even stirred in their beds and the dew is still fresh upon the grass. there is something lovely about the world in those moments when it is just beginning to wake that éowyn would like to share with elboron, should he wake early enough.

     the air here is sweet with the smell of greenery, the thick canopy overhead that the light filters gently through. when éowyn tips her head to peer at him rather than through the thick trunks and boughs it is with a smile that holds a laugh just behind it. there is a levity here she had once thought gone forever, lost to the bitter winter cold like so much else. sometimes, like now, it is disarming to feel it again ; some happiness that éowyn had imagined belonged exclusively to distant childhood memories of chasing her brother, her mother carding hands through her hair, her father telling stories at bedtime.

     “you sound like merry speaking of the ents,” her face is turned from him again to tilt up and look at the leaves above and the slices of blue sky beyond them. “i wonder if we will be lucky today and find one of those secrets.”
