All those suitors had been fake, only wanting to marry him for his status, whereas Lettuce had…had cared about him back when they were fighting. If she still cared for him, he was not certain——he liked to think she did, due to the fact he was beginning to legitimately care for her (but he was too stubborn to ever admit it or show such feelings).
