no one could ever say that veronica lodge was late, though on this occasion, she put it down to nerves. it was the first time she was seeing everyone for a number of years and while she had kept in touch with the majority, seeing them face to face was something else entirely. real life had stopped veronica from reaching out and while she knew that made her a bad friend, the same could be said for the rest of them. it was funny how you could be so close to people, spending up to eight hours a day with them and then not see them again for years.
taking a sip of her coffee that she’d ordered because she was so much earlier than everyone else, veronica looked up when blonde hair caught her eye. “betty!” betty was probably the one person she was looking forward to seeing the most out of everyone and she hated that it had been so long since they’d seen each other. she was still someone she classed as a best friend but it was hard to keep a friendship when you were limited to texts. it was the only way she’d been able to keep track of what was happening in betty’s life.
leaving her coffee on the table, veronica didn’t hesitate in standing up so she could wrap her arms around her best friend. “it’s so good to see you,” she murmured into her ear, leaning back so she could look at her properly. “let me get you a coffee or maybe you’d prefer a milkshake? it’s been a long time since we had one of those.” the nights where they would talk over their milkshakes were still one of the best ones veronica could remember. “i wasn’t expecting to see anyone else this early but i’m really glad it’s you.”
