Fully convinced by this episode that this is what Tim Minear has BEEN wanting to do and he's been juggling with the various forces to make it happen. And now it is.
I've been convinced of resurrection!Bobby theory by all the many lists of reasons that have been going around, and my last reblog (trying to link but it's not working argh) brought it home. Exactly, "realism" absolutely does not apply and Tim Minear is LYING.
I think this is what happened:
1. Plan A: Craziest Bathena story yet is written! Film a big public funeral and make sure it's all over tiktok to lay the "we're totally doing it" groundwork. Then neither confirm nor deny for two weeks while social media goes crazy over it. Funeral, grief, huge huge emotions, ACTING!!!! will happen. Then Bobby wakes up and the crowd goes wild, right??
2. But the script got seen! This was an accident that only got out because this fandom is full of Sherlocks treating the cast's little Instagram promos like the Zapruder film (and good on them lol). Luckily or not, it's April 1st. Now the concept of Buried Alive is out there getting chatted about and spoiling Tim's big grand surprise. So,
3. Plan B: Air the big dying scene and go to the press and double down! Make the cast double down! There's no time to change the story but there is enough time to change the social media narrative. Convince Kenny to be in on the prank of all time and act his ass off to the media.
4. Audience reacts big and extremely negatively. This is good for "all publicity is good publicity" theory because the engagement is off the charts (just in my observation - I haven't compiled numbers or anything). But this is bad because general audience AND fandom is talking about quitting. How that would actually go? I don't know but networks probably study this kind of thing.
So! Perhaps Tim Minear is in a saw trap right about now and sweating out the next couple weeks. Perhaps he's rubbing his hands and cackling. Maybe we'll find out later!
(I kind of hope the cast is in group chats laughing their asses off and not feeling terrible about it all.)
