A few years ago, a parked car in his driveway and an unlocked door would have meant that Derek’s carefully put together life was under attack and he needed to disappear as soon as possible.
Technically, it still meant that.
But a parked blue jeep, an unlocked door and the racket accompanied by a caffeine spiked heartbeat meant that Derek wanted to disappear and save himself a migraine, but wouldn’t actually follow through with it.
He considered it, for a moment, as he stood outside.
