Who are the Karubiyin? (Playlist)

The forces of heaven

Specifically the Abrahamic archangels through an Islamic lens

Herald (and aim to bring about) the coming of Judgement Day

They take possession of hosts (inspired by Supernatural and Jordy's angel lore @alulars)

The Hosts:

Typically desperate criminals who have sought repentence, drug addicts, the terminally ill, or victims close to death, seeking final love or forgiveness. As a result, they tend to look like bad guys

Unlike standard angels, archangels all have bleach white hair that looks like a bad peroxide dye job

They possess minimal memories related to their host but they do retain some of their personalities and typically just live the life of that person they possessed

Their code:

The karubiyin are like robots who follow the shahaddah like its the law of robotics set down by the creator

They cannot disobey those commands ever

They will bring about judgement day

They do this by trying to get into the back room of a club owned by the forces of hell, every night, to take back Israfil's horn

Every night they have failed thus far

Judgement Day:

The archangels and the forces of heaven want to bring about judgement day by any means.

Humanity and the forces of hell (humans, demons, Balma, etc) believe in climate change and do not want to bring about judgement day.

Everything is just fine as it is, they love the planet!

Even for Manchester it's a beautiful night. Clear, with a density to the air. You can see the stars even in the city.

Not that Jibreel looks up. He, the angel, walks in step with the saint, set on looking where the saint looks.

Midnight Café. It's actually a kebab house, patrons, drunk, singing Sweet Caroline. There is another blonde, a potwash in the back, you can see them ending a phone call through the porthole. Dressed to match Jibreel, not in color but in style: the language that spells out whether or not one belongs.

Among the many things still in purgatorial stasis as chaos wracks the world is the building of an official embassy for the forces of heaven. Jibreel was it - this was it - the whispers and the response.

They find a clean surface and a sense of solitude. They sit, the condiment tray between them like a line in the sand...it becomes clear that this is going to be one of those transitions marked by a nebulous lack of ceremony.

His smile is fond, steady. "How's life?"

My portrayal of Mikal is that he's a bit prideful about his obedience to God/his duties so he continues to speak with a higher recipient in mind. He also prioritises his dealings with celestial beings and diabolical beings over humans. When he is constantly asking God to forgive humanity he is dealing with God, not humanity. When he is battling with Iblis he is dealing with Iblis, not humanity.

He enjoys humanity as a concept but he has no human friends thus far, apart from his host's ex partner (who is weary of him) and their infant daughter (who cannot speak.)

He even refuses to access his host's previous memories whilst his siblings will engage in a more symbiotic relationship (metaphor for self awareness, learning from previous mistakes, actions, etc.) This is due to the resentment he feels for having to inhabit a body that is not operating at full capacity, and experiences substance withdrawal, dopamine dysregulation, has worms, is shooed out of nice places, etc. He does not wish to learn about the minutia of human life, which is to his own detriment as well as the mission's.

This is why he speaks how you'd expect Jibreel and Israfil to speak and why Jibreel and Israfil (who have had more dealings with humanity and are curious about the physical world) sprinkle "hey" and "yikes" into their vocab
