The smoke settles to reveal KIM JINWOO, an 80 year old vampire of Sunseong. He is a doctor who appears to be adept with his enhanced strength and mind control – but like most things in Sunseong, there seems to be more to him than meets the eye.
FACECLAIM: Kim Jinwoo, winner
BIOGRAPHY:
He had a life, once. It wasn’t the best, but it was something. He would go places, would be a doctor and save lives. He would do this and that, would, would, would.
And then he died.
And then he lived.
Jinwoo was never a religious man in life, but he heard about a man who lived again after being dead for three days. He was the same, but he didn’t feel holy. He felt confused, dizzy and hungry, a hunger that consumed his whole being from the inside out, turned his sight red. He could hear it, blood pumping through the man’s veins when he attacked, rushing. Until that moment Jinwoo had never felt something like that, something so powerful and beautiful, and he had never felt so alive.
They say there is no bond like a mother and her child, but they don’t know what a bond between maker and progeny. More than love, it was a compulsion. His maker taught him about how to be a vampire, how to not kill a prey, to avoid hunters and other species, about magic, about everything. Jinwoo was a child again, learning how to live in his new condition, seeing the beauty in the moon and being terrified by sunrise. Being alive was a blessing.
And then a curse.
Killing was not something he chose to do, but when he sire commanded Jinwoo had no choice. One, two, a hundred, bodies of humans and supernaturals alike piled under him as Jinwoo learned how to be a killer. It’s easy to say one grows used to do something they are told to, but it’s hard to admit to liking it. And after a year or ten he actually liked it. There was no easy way out, and Jinwoo would rather be the one who kept on living; if that meant a few would die on the way then so be it.
She was so beautiful. Like all those cliches of love songs and cheesy romance novels. She was so beautiful Jinwoo couldn’t stop drinking her blood, looking at her face as she smiled, giving herself to the moment. It was the perfect moment of intimacy, when Jinwoo drank the blood and he would lick the wound, he would let her, he would. But her blood was good and her face was beautiful and soon there was nothing left but her cold body on his hands. His maker did his one gesture of kindness, he gave then woman his blood. Like Victor was forced to give the monster his bride, Jinwoo was given her. He sat on the dirt and he waited for her to come back, and when she was back he taught her, he gave her everything.
And then he took it away.
Killing his own master, their master, he never thought it would come to it. But Jinwoo was a monster, and he’d rather be the only one. No one would turn her into something unholy like him, make her kill for the fun of it, make her enjoy it. So he sacrificed their master for there would be no more slaves, they were free. They were free and she was scared, and she hated him. She couldn’t see what he was, or she ignored it. Jinwoo had never seen something so beautiful turn so ugly, but she would forgive him one day. And they had plenty of those.
He moved away for a moment, he needed space. The world was evolving and Jinwoo was trying his best to catch up, to become a modern person. He went to night school, he graduated as a doctor as he should, all those years ago. He forced himself to understand modern medicine and the complicated machines humans use to cure one another. Jinwoo adapted and moved on.
And then he came back.
Sunseong is his home and he knows it. The streets are different, the people too, but Jinwoo knows the core of it. He understands it like no other. No place is safe, but he makes a home for himself among the ill, the ones who are ignored. It’s easy to blend in, to become another face in the crowd when everyone is worried if they’ll live or die. They should be worried about him, about the monster living among them. But they will be, one day. And Jinwoo has plenty of those.
CHARACTERIZATION:
Jinwoo works at a hospital as a doctor. The night shift most times is a turbulent one in a time of crime and when supernatural beings are on the loose, so it’s easy for him to find source of food. He’s reaching a stage of his vampire life when he doesn’t need to feed every day, three or four liters of blood taken from different patients is enough to keep him going for four days at best.
Has already lost touch with his humanity or his empathy for humans. He can fake it for the patients and other staff at the hospital, but Jinwoo feels nothing for them. They are his food and nothing more.
Which makes killing easy and even enjoyable. Drinking blood is an intimate act, and so is killing. Holding someone in his arms while they die makes Jinwoo feel powerful and he likes the feeling. He doesn’t care for other species at all.
Once a lady told him Jinwoo has a supernatural beauty, he laughed and moved on.
Despite his sharp senses Jinwoo can’t orientate himself very well and often ends up wandering the streets in his rare days off. He also doesn’t know how to use a GPS or a smartphone for that matters, still wishes doctors used pagers.
His favorite color is blue and most of his clothes have different shades of it, or just black as it is easier to disguise blood on it. His house has walls in a light blue, a color he finds soothing.
He sort of remembers his human family, and once when bored he did an extensive research to find his descendents. He found his older sister’s granddaughter and even followed her around for a while before realizing she led a boring life and losing interest.
There’s a street cat that usually sleeps on his apartment at night, so Jinwoo always leaves the window open as well as food and water. Sometimes Jinwoo sees the cat, but most times he just finds the food and water gone, it’s a good relationship.
Jinwoo likes instrumental music. He doesn’t understand or likes the music humans listen to. Once he went to a concert and decided it was just noise. He also doesn’t understand the internet works or what celebrities are. Among the hospital staff that is seen as a cute trait and he leaves it at that.
SPECIALTIES:
Enhanced strength (Rank II, 40 points): Jinwoo has a strength even beyond the vampiric one. He can easily lift heavy objects twice his size like cars, for example. But that comes as a great expense of his stamina and the heavier the object he lifts is the more blood he will have to drink later. His strength also grants him enhanced durability, meaning his muscles are denser than the average vampire body; this means Jinwoo has a high resistance to damage from external attacks, his body can take more attacks from silver and fire, but he still isn’t immune and will still need more blood than normal to recover. It also can be hard to control the amount strength he uses when he’s too angry, and therefore Jinwoo has to remain calm at all costs for his strength to be useful.
Mind Control (Rank II, 40 points): He can control minds upon eye contact and only for a determined period of time. His power works better on humans and ghouls, and if he has to apply it to other species he will become tired easier. It also draws people and ghouls towards him, making it hard for them to not stare at him or gravitate towards him until he either controls them or ignores them.
I don't see anything good about Winner. Jinwoo is the second hand version of Seungri and the same with Mino to Top. Taehyung to Daesung. I don't even know why Jinwoo is in the group, he's cute but that's it. He's like a Dara of the group. Talentless.
Tbh, I can't understand why YG signed with Jinhwan, Donghyuk, Minho, Jinwoo and Taehyun. They all have flaws with their singing/rapping. Jinhwan has a whiny voice, Donghyuk sounds unstable and too soft, Minho has a contrived overly raspy sound, Jinwoo has an unstable voice and can't do vibrato and Taehyun's vocals are really nasal. I'm not a hater and I'm not saying that they are _bad_ singers/rappers but seeing that YG chose them, he should've at least given them professional singing classes.
