haven't had any time to write anything for return to sender lately, so here's the opening paragraphs from my scrapped sakuatsu fic!

Kiyoomi was so, very, irrevocably, screwed.
Being on the MSBY Black Jackals meant being surrounded by obnoxious, extroverted, gaudy, and downright horrendous teammates. If Kiyoomi could go back in time to 2 years ago, he would ask – nay, beg – his past self to sign a contract with the Adlers instead. He often had maladaptive daydreams (Some would say hallucinations, but he digresses) of playing with the level-headed and civilized Ushijima. He would even settle for Kageyama, even if there were rumors of his… less than adequate social skills. But who was he to judge, anyways?
But no, being surrounded by the Bokutos, and Hinatas, and Inunakis of the world twenty-four-seven wasn’t the problem. The problem was that he was starting to grow fond of the worst of them all. The wretched, dreadful, horrendous, downright repulsive Atsumu Miya.
He had come to this consensus (Conclusion? Verdict? He wasn’t sure what to refer to it as) after much thought and tribulation, i.e., laying in his bed under his covers listening to his favorite white girl music and calling his cousin, Motoya, in 20 minute intervals. In his afternoon spent panicking, he had successfully tracked the change across 5 phases. WIth this, he could just work backward until he found the root of the problem, and just extract it. Kiyoomi had gone to university for a reason. In his very insightful 4 years spent post-high-school-graduation, he had learned that every problem has a solution, and the solution is always to do something about it yourself.
The 5 phases, he had determined, were as listed:
i. Annoyance
ii. Denial
iii. Habituation
iv. Spontaneity
v. Adjustment
The only thing to do now, was to track down how this started and rid of the parasitic affection he had suddenly garnered towards Miya.
Sounds easy enough.
- a/n , i might finish this, who knows? i really like the idea, but i couldn't find a good way for it to flow last time i worked on it.
motoya died and kiyoomi is alive. he attempts to come to terms with that fact. lots of death and grief in this fic!!! i find the prose and pacing and characterization so elegant and beautiful and colorful. a very well written fic.

Kiyoomi and Atsumu are lazily cuddling on the porch overlooking their backyard, twin boys splashing around by the inflatable pool under the cherry blossom tree in the middle of the yard, leaves a lush green at the peak of one Sunday afternoon.
Amidst the lively chortles, their eldest daughter waddles up the short flight of steps as she props the bright pink sunglasses on top of her head, right between two messy buns of thick curls.
“Mama, will ya please play with me now?” She asks as she hugs Atsumu’s leg, round eyes looking up at him expectantly as she bats her lashes like she knows Atsumu can’t say ‘no’ to her sweet face.
Before Atsumu could answer, Kiyoomi tightens his hold around Atsumu’s waist and engages in a swift staredown with his daughter, their mirrored expressions making Atsumu giggle. “Darling, can I tell you something?”
The little girl lets out a petulant sigh but nods slowly, lips settling to a small pout. She’s truly Kiyoomi’s mini me.
“You see those boys playing by the pool bursting with energy?” Kiyoomi points at the twins spraying water guns at each other.
She quirks her brow, not liking where the conversation was leading.
“Mama and I made them especially for you so you’d have your own personal playmates. Or minions. Whichever you prefer.”
Atsumu hits Kiyoomi’s arm and tries to sit up to throw him a warning glare but he’s reeled back into Kiyoomi’s hold in half a beat.
“But they’re too rowdy!”
“And you think this one isn’t?”
Atsumu gasps and lands another playful swat on Kiyoomi’s bicep. “Hey!”
“No, Mama’s not as loud as two of them!”
“Yeah, well, we have a no returns and exchanges policy, unfortunately. Sorry, sweetie.”
Atsumu pinches Kiyoomi’s side, his last warning.
“I think what Daddy means to say is, you can grab your book and tell us about the story you’re reading, then we can all play board games with your brothers once your sister is back from her club. How does that sound?”
In an instant, the little girl scurries over to the swing to grab her book and slips her way into Atsumu’s embrace, making herself comfortable in his lap as she flits through the pages until she finds the bookmark adorned with with fox and weasel doodles tucked between the last chapter she’s read.
She begins her narration, all prior displeasure seemingly transferred onto her father’s puckered lips.
“Ya big baby,” Atsumu leans back and whispers teasingly into Kiyoomi’s ear. “Can’t even share with yer own daughter?”
“Not when it comes to you, no.”
“Sap,” Atsumu coos, earning a low grunt from his husband which he placates with a soft kiss on the corner of his mouth.
The gesture visibly quells Kiyoomi’s mood almost immediately. “You missed your mark,” he clears his throat and feigns discontent for one more.
“Are ya both listening?”
“Yes, ma’am!” The couple affirms in unison as they turn back their attention towards their little storyteller.
Atsumu bites back a fit of laughter and pretends not to picture the disgruntled look on his husband’s face behind him.
Neither of them stood a chance against their precious devil angels, after all.
“Let’s hope this little sister will be just the right playmate for her,” Kiyoomi huffs as he rubs soothing circles on Atsumu’s belly.
Atsumu hums amusedly, melting into his warmth as their daughter pompously describes the captain of a flying pirate ship with her whole body.
"house that always rains" by conan gray is so sakuatsu in "if i'm losing a piece of me (how do i get to heaven)" by pearlsandpemberly on ao3
and also a little bit of "A Liar's Truth"
specifically sakusa and his family with how they're always characterized in fics like this
ik "if i'm losing a piece of me (how do i get to heaven)" by pearlsandpemberly is less popular than "A Liar's Truth" but it's a great fic. quick summary so i can convince you to read it:
atsumu is the priest's son and he meets sakusa at church and they become friends (and then some) but when their parents find out they get split up since both their families are extremely religious. they end up remeeting much later on in life and reconnect. it's 2 chapters and not very long but i would recommend it if you liked "A Liar's Truth"!
