BY HEAVEN’S LIGHT & HOLY DEVOTION, TWO ARE BOUND FOR THE GLORIOUS RECKONING ; a small essay on why alexander cannot be summoned in final fantasy xv
at least from what i’m going to write about & regarding lenneth’s verse as an astral aspect of the HOLY JUDGE ALEXANDER.
let me start this off with saying that i ramble a lot and this might not make concrete sense -- do allow me to clarify with questions and the like if you so desire.
ALEXANDER is a well known HOLY summon within the final fantasy universe ; DIVINE JUDGEMENT being it’s claim to fame. in standard lore, alexander is not an easy summon to muster nor is it easily acquired in any game -- it usually involves a task, some type of horrendous bearing, usually deal with some type of purification. it’s most notable appearance is within FF9 which is what i base most of my canon off for this verse.
within the realm of final fantasy 15, there is an entire world shrouded in darkness -- filled with daemons, monsters, whatever you want to call them. they are afraid, horrified of the light which causes them canonically in-game damage ( if you’ve ever fought a red giant at 5am in the game you know what i mean -- some /inserts okami reference, THE SUN RISES happening then ) .
being that alexander is a holy summon, a holy astral, and usually nominated as one of THE STRONGEST SUMMONS, besting BAHAMUT on several occasions and canonically during FFIX -- one can assume that it is imbued with holy light ; it would best all daemons, it would purify and light up the eternal darkness for just a reprieve or not even let it happen in the first place.
that’s where i’m getting a little free falling with my canon which final fantasy roleplayers, feel free to adopt or ignore -- whatever you want.
considering that the game is a mismash of noctis trying to bond with the astrals that lunafreya has convened with -- what if, by logic standing, lunafreya’s death actually inhibits the summon of alexander.
within a lot of final fantasy canon, alexander requires TWO people to summon it -- mainly FFIX ( once again, most of my canon from there ). what if by ardyn killing lunafreya, whether he knows it or ( and probably knows it because alexander literally would be the windfall that the world needs ) effectively seals alexander from being properly summoned ; trapping it in a holy vessel of a paladin ( which is my verse’s case ) -- meaning that the most powerful holy elemental summon is locked within an astral plane because it requires a balancing force to procure it.
had lunafreya lived long enough to make a proper covenant with alexander, she might have been able to convince noctis to summon it -- but that would also pertain to them ruling jointly together and being by each other’s sides -- love and righteousness overcoming despair and darkness. it’s literally alexander’s motif.
so by removing the balancing force of the oracle from noctis’ life, technically obliterates any chance that noctis could summon the divine judge -- and even if he some how mustered the strength to take on that holy energy by himself, alexander would probably not even deem him worthy until the very end of the game -- alexander only seems to accept those that have put themselves above their own personal fate. noctis as we well know, for most the game, is a pity party ( understandably ??? no shame, my bro ).
these are just some thoughts that i have. also ardyn meeting lenneth!alexander and just being like: wow you’re literally at 1/100 of the strength you should be that’s hilarious
