lester was looking for them. he was passing the garage when they heard him shouting their names. bo had edie pinned against the wall, his hand over her mouth and his lips inches from her cheek.

“don’t say anything.” bo’s words were a harsh whisper. “i want to be alone with you.”

she smiles against his palm, reaching up and removing his hand. edie pulls him closer and presses a kiss to his lips. “that’s all you had to say.”

nellie wakes up with her cheek in the dirt and blood dried on her lip. she needs to blink a few times to actually see what was around her, but all she can see are moonlit trees and darkness. she had been lost in dreams of freedom- escape from what she believed to be hell.

a noise causes her to sit up quickly and turn around, heart racing at the sight of Joey; seated on a tree stump, dark eyes behind his mask watching her. she relaxes just a little, gazing back at him curiously.

"good morning." he jokes, but there's no humor in his voice. "you really hit your head. been waiting a while."

nellie puts a hand to her head, trying to remember, but it was difficult. "why didn't you just kill me?"

he shrugs and sits up straight, looking away from her as if anything else was just as interesting. "this isn't a trial. why should i?"

theo wasn't a savior. she wasn’t a saint- an angel- a hero. she was a woman thrown into a hell no one deserved. from day one she had to fight for her survival and commit atrocities against her better wishes. nothing she did was helping anyone, she thought, just creating more problems others had to clean up.

she selfishness during the war caused people to die- caused her friends deep trauma she couldn't take away- caused her to lose any sense of morality that she might have had left. she was far from being a savior- she was no better than the cult.
