seraphcastiel’s 2021 monthly roundup: MARCH ⋙ JAN | FEB
hi guys! i wanted to do something new this 2021 and do a sort of “round up” of all the edits i make, as well as some of my personal favorite bits of content (edits, fic, art, etc) that others have made throughout the month. this is largely to keep track of my own content so i can see how my PS skills are improving as i continue to relearn how to make edits, and also i thought it’d be cool to take note of how many edits i do/what kinds of edits i do each month so i can see how i’ve grown as a content creator at the end of the year. (plus, i get to give a quick shout out to some of my favorite content creators as well hehe).

happy birthday jensen ackles: i think i made this in like an hour skdjdks i completely forgot it was jensen’s birthday and just sorta scrambled to put something together. and then i completely forgot to post it at the right time bc i was busy watching pose :))))
divorce arc || castiel’s apology: rewatched the lily sunder ep and i connected the dots you didn’t connect shit i connected them. the orange-ness of the 15.03 scene continues to be the bane of my existence, but i think emphasizing the blues in each scene made the whole gifset seem a bit more coherent, color-wise.
tfw, “home”: made this for @seraphlm’s birthday! zoe requested something fluffy, and what’s fluffier than musical theatre? fun fact, this song was one of my go-to audition pieces back when i still did MT (and also the wiz > wizard of oz). this was another instance of me having to compensate for the orange-ness of the later seasons by jacking up the blues in the rest of the scenes. thank god spn loves putting their characters in red and blue.
the profound bond || the story of cain and colette: wanted to do another edit that paralleled spn dialogue with different spn scenes/scenarios. i guess this is a series now? supernatural-natural? idk. but catch me fully leaning into the late season orange filter this time lmaooo. also the parallel of cas letting dean stab him in s4 vs stopping him in s10 made me need to lie down for a good fifteen minutes. gifmaking is fun.
supernatural + tarot card series (jack, bobby, charlie, kevin): tarot card series is still going strong! i definitely used bolder color combinations this month, and ngl i think they look fucking bomb. especially proud of the middle jack gif since i had to doctor the scene in order to put him in the middle of the frame (why tf did they originally frame him off to the very far right phil sgriccia meet me in the parking lot i just wanna talk).
deancas, “it’s quiet uptown”: me making hamiltonatural edits in the year of our lord 2021? more likely than you think. just wanted to make a lil something for @magnoliadean bc i love her and i missed her birthday lmao. between the purgatory scenes and the shitty bunker lighting, coloring this was a fucking nightmare but that’s par for the course at this point lol. i’m just glad it turned out alright.
deancas, “crush”: i am not immune to sikenatural. i was actually gonna post something else that day but the dash was freaking out about 15.18 for some reason (maybe it was the day one of the new dubs was released i don’t remember anymore), so i whipped this up real fast. and tbh even though i 100% made this as a pure notes-grab, i was not expecting this to get that many notes in such a short time. the coloring is so basic compared to what i usually do, i think this maybe took me like an hour and a half tops? but i do like how it came out and hey, i’m not complaining about the reception so thanks yall skdjdks.
castiel, “exile”: i am not immune to swiftnatural, either. this was the edit i was originally gonna post that day i made/posted the siken edit. coloring this was a lot of fun, and i adore how it turned out. this might actually be my favorite edit that i made this month, just bc i made it on a whim and didn’t really have any set plan on how the end product was gonna look so the final outcome was an unexpected surprise lol.
castiel, “hurricane”: another hamilton edit. i know, i hate me too. this shot from 10.18 is too cool to pass up though, and the last part of cas’ resurrection scene in 13.04 is one of my top five moments in the entire show (if you couldn’t tell from how often i use it in my edits haha). the lines i used in the caption are some of my favorite lines from the musical, and i just think they fit cas so well. plus i wanted to try making an edit that used two different gif sizes just to see if i liked how it looked. jury’s still out on that.
deancas, “the world was wide enough”: three hamilton edits in one month should be a crime punishable by law but in my defense it was @donestiel’s birthday. amy was the first friend i made when i came back to the fandom, so i wanted to go all out for her bday edit by including her favorite stuff: purple-y coloring, angst, and at least one (1) destiel hug (her specific request). i probably spent more time on this edit than i have anything else i’ve made - i think it took me a total of 10 hours spread out over two weeks, just to get the coloring exactly how i wanted it. and i ultimately ended up completely changing the coloring of every other gif to a more muted palette so that the overall edit didn’t look so busy and overwhelming. i really like how it turned out though, and i’m very into the fact that i keep switching the role of eliza between dean and cas.
castiel, “blackbird”: made this for @mishha’s birthday and i loooove how it turned out. blackbird is my favorite beatles songs and i’ve been wanting to make an edit for it for forever bc it fits cas so perfectly, and i wanted the edit to be appreciated by a certified cas girl hahaha. i was originally gonna do both verses and have the second verse where it says “you were only waiting for this moment to be free” to be about cas “freeing” himself by declaring his love and being taken by the empty, but unlike amy sila didn’t ask for angst lmao plus it didn’t look good with the dreamlike, creamcicle coloring i used for the first verse. i’m glad so many people seemed to like this bc it’s definitely one of my favorite things i’ve made this month.
tfw, “shake it out”: no real story to this one, this was mostly just a bullshit edit i made to procrastinate on one of my tarot edits lol. it was nice to do relatively simple “realistic” coloring after so many gifsets with insane amounts of coloring layers. and this song brought me right back to high school so there was definitely some nostalgia at play when i made this.
deancas, “empty chairs at empty tables”: again, another edit i made just to procrastinate on a tarot edit dkdjdk. this one did take me longer than the previous one bc the two scenes had such different color palettes it took some time to make it look cohesive. i love how the angels falling contrasts with the smoke rising. spn cinematography can be good when it wants to be.
castiel, “an angel cried”: i actually made this edit about three weeks before i posted it. i finished the first draft, and while i really liked the coloring, i just didn’t feel like it was good enough to post yet? idk something about it felt off, i didn’t really know what i was going for- something about cas’ journey and the recurring motif of sparks/lights? but then i didn’t like that the third gif didn’t actually have cas in it, but i didn’t wanna do an overlay or anything and idk it was just bugging me. and i just kept it in my drafts for the longest time figuring i’d eventually get back to it but i never really figured out what to do that would make me like it lol. honestly, i just decided to post it bc i have this thing where i have to post anything i finish within the month i finish it, and technically it was finished. so yeah. oh well. they can’t all be winners lol.
patience x @poemsforpersephone #4: i had actually bookmarked a few of lauren’s works for a possible gifset celebrating international women’s month, but work got so busy that i never had time to actually make the intricate edit i had in mind. :( i didn’t wanna end the month without doing something, though, so when i saw that people were doing an spn poc week celebration i decided to use one of the poems i had saved to honor my FAVORITE girl, patience THEE turner, who definitely deserved her own spinoff and at least a three-movie contract. coloring this was a lot of fun, and i really wanted to make sure that i didn’t whitewash her in any way bc the constant whitewashing of POC in edits is so fucking gross, intentional or otherwise. it wasn’t hard at all to no whitewash, so some of yall better take some fucking notes. i am no longer asking.
