Overdrive; I’m currently playing through FFX and X-2 again (because I ALWAYS play them when it gets warm here) and the changes that were made to Blitzball were always so odd to me? I really LOVED playing Blitzball in X. I mean I played HARD. As in before I reached the Moonflow, I have already replaced all of the original Besaid Aurochs (because honestly they’re not that worth the effort). I’m doing that again. I’m playing Blitzball every day without advancing the story (or, I’ll do a little bit if I get burnt out). It’s just fun learning the different techniques and setting up the team positions to counteract certain players on other teams. After a while, you start to memorize their stats and their strategies. It’s important to pass the ball to everyone on your team and let them get experience. It can’t be like that episode of Hey Arnold where the basketball coach has everyone pass the ball to his son even though his son sucks at the game. You can’t just pass to Tidus just because he has the Jecht Shot. There are other viable shooters in the game! In fact, I usually have two people with high shoot stats on my team so I can get as many goals as possible without having to rely on Tidus. But what they did in X-2 was really confusing to me. Instead of 5 team players, it was like 8? They also had like 38943 more stats? And you didn’t really actively play the game, you just acted as a coach sort of and chose where the players went. Although it was nice to have Yuna and Rikku finally play Blitzball, you didn’t get to really see them in action in the way you did with Tidus in X’s Blitzball. It was just a mess. I know it’s because Blitzball wasn’t meant to be a big part of the overall game in the way it was in X, but as someone who grew up LOVING Blitzball, X-2′s answer to it was disappointing! So, if I ever mention Rikku continuing on with Blitzball in my roleplays, I will likely be referring to the X format, rather than X-2. It just feels better to me.
