Sabewise: Hmmm... For some reason this years harvest gave us less wheat. It’s smaller too. S: Thankfully it is still enough to sell and keep for ourselves. I won’t have to burden my mother with the news. S: She would hate to hear that each year we’re gettting less food... Since she can’t come to the fields with me anymore, she counts on me to manage them. I’m I doing a bad job? Kip: Wabie! Wabie! Wabie! S: (Laughs) Amabilia Kip! What did I tell you about running in the soil? K: Wabie! I found a wutterfly! (Giggles) S: A butterfly? Fluttering around? K: Yes! It was white! S: You know something, Kip? A white butterfly means that you are being watched over by angels, maybe dad wanted to say hi!

Sabewise: Fine, I’ll make you that favor! But just one song! (Giggles} Emmanuel: Just one song? Are your feet so frail they won’t bear to move for more than a couple minutes? S: (Sarcastic) No, but your breath is so stinky that I won’t stand being near your face for more than that! E: Huh, that’s a low blow. You win this one, Goldilocks.  S: And that makes it... forty- four against forty-two! You have step up your game, raise the bar a little. This is getting boring. E: (Laughs) Why don’t I raise you instead? S: (Squeaks) Emmanuel! Put me down!  E: Not until you look at the stars! Look how they shine! S: I see them! E: Is that what you see when you look into my eyes? (Smirks) S: You’re such a fool. E: (Whispers) Hey, the song’s about to end. S: ... Okay, let’s dance one more. E: That’s the spirit, Sabie! S: (Laughs)

Emmanuel: Are ya ready to lose? I’m not gonna let ya win just because you’re a kid, Wilmarc!

Wilmarc: You underestimate me! I’m not going to be the loser here.

Emmanuel: These apples are too big for your mouth!

Wilmarc: (Joking) Your teeth are too big for your face!

Emmanuel: Ouch! Kids are cruel...

Wilmarc: (Giggles) I’m sorry!

Emmanuel: Hey, Sabie!

Sabewise: Yes, Emmanuel?

Emmanuel: If I win, do I get a kiss from you, princess?

Sabewise: (Burst of laughter) How drunk are you?

Emmanuel: Just answer, please!

Sabewise: Fine! I’ll kiss whoever wins.

[They quickly submerge their heads in the water, biting and chasing the floating apples. This game is harder than Emmanuel remembers, and his slight inebriation isn’t helping his precision.]

[The crowd cheers and claps. This game has been a town tradition almost since they began doing the festivals. It’s a favorite, but this year, less people were able to participate, so Wil was allowed to chime in.]

Wilmarc: I got it! I got the apple! [Crowd cheers.]

Sabewise: (Smiles) Congratulations, Wilmarc!

[Hooves crushing dry flower leaves and soft breathing from animals fill the air. The piglets are calmly having lunch. Slightly afar, there are sounds of a coarse brush rubbing the skin of a horse.]

Tinna: There, there, Piper. That wasn’t so bad, wasn’t it? I’m sorry... I know you don’t like it but I have to brush you! Piper neighs softly. Sabewise: Hey, copper top, it’s almost midday. We should be heading to the house soon. T: Don’t call me that, ducky. What is with that look on your face? T: You look worried, Sabie.  S: What? No. It’s just Kip getting heavy and my noodle arms hurt. T: Don’t try to fool me, I know when something’s wrong. S: Fine, I’ll tell you, but please don’t tell mother, since I plan to do that myself. T: I swear on the piglets! S: Our harvest have been getting more scarce each year, and I don’t know what’s causing it. T: Hmmm... That’s not good news. T: Let’s go to our mother, then! You have to tell her as soon as possible! S: I don’t think she’ll know what to do about this, Tinna. T: That’s possible, yes, but she must have some sort of advice. S: Okay, I have to start preparing lunch, anyway.

Dancing to the Bard’s Beat🎶

Introducing Emmanuel by @marigolde 🌱

Wilmarc: (Laughs) Like that, Kip! Move your feet to the music!

[Sound of flute and laughter, rythmical clapping. Happy stomping, cheering. People enjoying their time.]  [Torches dimly lit the place, and the smell of ale filled it to the brim.  Children giggled and adults rejoicecd. Festivals were the town’s favorite nights, because they could let go, and danced as if there was no tomorrow.]

Emmanuel: Hey, Sabie! Dance with me, will ya?

[Humming a soft melody to herself. Edith gently pulls the buds from a branch. She plans to make an arrangement with them. She loves flowers, and is absorbed in her task. So much, that she doesn’t hear her own daughter calling to her the first couple times.]

Sabewise: -ther? Mother! Edith: Oh! Yes, dear. Forgive me, is there something I can help you with?  S: Not really, I just came to tell you about our crops. Tinna already fed the animals, and the horses are ready for their stroll. S: I harvested the majority of the wheat, and thankfully we still have enough to sell and eat, but I’ve noticed that each year that passes, we have less that comes out fine, and what does, is smaller. E: Hmmm, then we’ll just have to plant more next year. S: It’s not that simple, we have to figure out what is making the land less fertile. E: When I used to work the lands, everything was simpler. We were thriving. S: But times change, mom, and this is worrying. E: Sabie, I understand your worries. Why don’t you ask the other farmers if their crops are also lacking? That way, we will know if it’s just our land, or the area in general. S: That’s a good idea. I’ll have to go to the main marketplace in a couple days, they will be selling their harvest. E: While you’re there, remember to grab some beverages for my ailment, I feel okay now, but we’re almost out of them. S: Yes, mother. I’m glad you feel strong for now. Wilmarc has been taking good care of you.

Wilmarc: Sabie! You’re home! Sabewise: Wil! Why are you so excited, little man? Seeing your sister makes you that happy? I’m flattered! (Laughs) W: (Laughs) It’s not that! But I am happy to see you! S: Then what is it? W: Have you forgotten? Today’s festival! S: Oh! You’re right! W: Every year, I get so excited! I love dancing with you, and with Tinna, and Kip! And seeing other people, and- S: Calm down, dude! S: Being stuck at home with mom has made you long for adventures, right? W: Yeah... I do love her, but being here all day, just taking care of her... It gets monotonous, you know? S: (Giggles) Monotonous, where did you learn that word? W: I’ve been reading dad’s books! S: Well! Once mom gets better, I’ll take you on the most grand adventures! We will fight dragons, save faires, explore enchanted forests... W: Sabie! That stuff is only in books! Don’t be silly! (Laughs) [Edith proudly watches her children play. She wishes she wasn’t ill, since her family suffers because of that. She feels guilt, but on the outside, she smiles.]

Before the Festival✨

Tinna: I can’t believe you got me to do you hair again! Sabewise: What can I say, I’m just that good with words. T: And with bribery. S: (Sigh) Indeed... Now I have to brush your mare for a week, but it’s worth it. T: Sabewise, my intuition is telling me something outrageous!  S: What: T: It tells me you want to look pretty because Emmanuel will be there. (Giggles) S: (Chokes) No! That’s not the reason! Is it a sin to want to look presentable for a town event? T: Whatever you say, Sabie. S: We’re just good friends! T: If you think about it, it would be convenient if you married him. He’s a swordsman, so you would be protected. S: Stop it! T: I’m just teasing you, ducky. I’m happy you’ll get to go to the festival. S: Are you sure you don’t want to come? T: Oh! Not really, I’d rather stay here and sleep in. I’ve been really tired lately. S: Fine, your loss, Tin. S: But we’re going to dance! And siiing, and play! T: (Laughs) Stop! You’re embarrasing yourself!
