There had been other places to put the piano, if Edith had really wanted to move it. But she never played much anymore, and Emil had always needed something to with his hands, ever since he was young. The deal was: he could have the room, as long as he shared it with the piano.
One day he'd figure it out, that it might've been her plan all along. But for now, the sound of her mother's old piano being played again, no matter how clumsily, was reward enough. It sounded like home.
