ASOS SPOILERS: Coldhands, Jon, Sam.

While I agree that it might be less complicated to cast Coldhands directly for season 4, like, when Bran and the Reeds come out of the tunnel, but what do you think about the fact that no one thought to say “Hey, Sam, don’t tell Jon I’m beyond the Wall, otherwise he might go look for me and get killed” ? Either it’s gonna create something new, and stupid, or Sam is just not gonna say anything for no reason, which could be even weirder for non-book readers. (Also, I really wanted Summer to go to Sam, like in the books, but apparently, fuck direwolves)

For a character that doesn't need much explanation(for its entrance in the story i mean) and it was only supposed to make an appearance to add some excitement to the episode, I see no reason why only its appearance is better for season 4. But anyway.

I think, or I assume, that they are going to mention some of that later on. Sam is going to have to say something to some other character, about the meeting, and what happened beyond the Wall, giving Jon only half of the story. Maybe he can have a scene with Gilly saying "it's really hard not to reveal to Jon what happened beyond the Wall", or maybe having the whole conversation with Maester Aemon and him advising him not to tempt Jon with details of what is happening with his family. I see the latter more possible, since Aemon and Jon have had the conversation about making sacrifices when duty calls. So, he can maybe reinforce that through Sam, and urging him to keep his mouth shut.

You really should look for more works from Burn Gorman, he's AWESOME (all in capitals!). And if you have time, what do you think they (D&D) are doing to Sam (John Bradley West) and Stannis (Stephen Dillane) changing so much the storylines and the characteristics?

About Sam and Stannis, I can only say I’m pissed off. Sam is great in the books, I liked his chapters. By this point, on the books, he was already Sam the Slayer, and also had a amazing heartbreaking moment by the side of Lord Commander. I do hope, they make him Sam the Slayer at some point. There’s still time for that. Maybe when he’s escaping with Gilly. Idk how, but they better do it. Stannis on the other hand, has been butchered, and I see no way of bringing him back. Show!Stannis is not book!Stannis, and the interesting parts of the character have been pretty much taken away. So, I just can’t enjoy those scenes, and I can’t really appreciate the character, cause his storyline seems pretty much like a bad fanfiction.

The characters have been pretty much fattened, and they are but a shadow of their book!counterparts. But while Sam is still salvageable, I don’t feel the same about Stannis, whose motivations on the show, are completely fucked up.

I agree. Not to mention it removes another of Sam's great moments. They have already taken the dragonglass dagger moment from him, now this. I like Sam, and Lord Commander too! I don't like how they finished the scene.

Reading from the book now, lol.

He says he caught one of the ravens and put the message and made it fly. Goes to Mormont and tells him. Mormont says to wait by him to send more in case it's needed. Sam writes as the battles goes, but is not sending them until he receives the order. He hears the horn commanding them to get on the horses and leave, and he opens the cage of the crows, they all fly, and he realizes he had not attached the messages of what was happening at the battle (because he got scared and was in a hurry). Meaning the news on the defeat was not sent, but the first message "we are under attack" was indeed sent. He was able to send one raven with message included, to Castle Black, before they got overrun.

Sam sent 1 raven. He did what was expected of him, at least once.

I’m confusing two things here.

Wiki: “When the Others attack the Watch camp at the Fist of the First Men, Sam manages to send word of the attack to Castle Black and is able to escape with a group of about fifty survivors led by Jeor Mormont”

Sam did send them to Castle Black. 

Another thing is the ravens sent that make a certain someone go to the wall.

in the gifset of the 1st episode 3rd seasons Sam says no when he was asked if he sent the ravens but if I remember correctly, didn't he send them in the book?!

He did.

I think he did. If I remember correctly, he did. Without going into spoilers, that’s how a certain someone finds out, and another certain someone shows up at the wall. Right?

For me, he did. I don’t have ASOS here with me, or I would look for it.

I do hate they are making him too coward and useless. Book!Sam is awesome, and I feel the show is only going to use him to make him look like a fool, and a laughing stock. Ugh!

He did send the ravens!!

I don’t know how they are gonna make character development work, when they are trying hard to flatten the good, and bad, characteristics their book!counterparts had. I just hope they don’t take away his accomplishments in order to provide some comic relief to the scenes. Do not need it, do not want it.

okay i checked your faq and it seems that no one has yet to ask you about your opinion on John Bradley West's performance as Samwell, so any thoughts? I know he hasn't been given all that much as of yet but with season 3 approaching and his role expanding, hopefully D&D not fucking up his part too much but knowing them they will, I'd like to get your opinion beforehand.

I love it when people check the FAQ and come up with more questions! I didn't even realize I had never said a word about his performance!

He happens to be one of the young actors who does a decent job, and probably doesn't get noticed.

I'm really happy with his casting. When reading, I never actually pictured someone for the role, but when I saw him playing the part, I was convinced he would do a good job. 

I think he embodies the role perfectly. He has a certain ease to it, and it shows. Also he has good chemistry with Harington, and that's probably one of the things I really look for in an actor. Some actors on the show have that quality. They work greatly with any actor, no matter if their counterparts are not as skilled as they are. So Bradley-West gets and A+ on that.

I have no complaints about his performance. He was able to show the weaknesses of his character, as well as being somewhat funny and loveable. Perfect sidekick.

His line delivering is always in consonance with his character's personality. I know saying this might sound stupid, but I happen to notice some actors don't really use or appreciate the way that even the sound of their voice, the accentuation of the lines, and the way they deliver them, helps them when portraying a character. Bradley-West happens to know it, and use it.

He had his share of good moments on the show IMO (like the scene when he tells Jon what his father's plans for him were. His performance was on point for that one). And I think he won't have problems in the following seasons. Also really excited to see Sam's encounter with a certain character!

I agree with you on the future potential changes. Hopefully they won't have to make major changes to adapt the books, since all of his chapters maybe need to be trimmed, but not really changed. But I know is up to the writers and producers, and since they are leaving a lot of stuff out, as well as changing certain situations, they might have to change things anyway.
