Nice work on the blog. As someone who initially watched the show then read all the books I didn't like Mel and Stannis, but ended up really enjoying them in the books. Do you think that D&D are giving them a fair shake? Also what are your thoughts on their acting in this past season and what we do you expect going forward. Thanks!

Hi, thank you!

No, they are not. I think Stannis is viewed as a “bad guy” in some kind of way, or maybe that’s the impression I get from the adaptation. The limited screen time, the sloppy writing, the misinterpretation of the character, has definitely had its impact on the show. If you ask viewers non-readers what they think or feel about Stannis, it would go from meh, to who? to I hate him. I don't mind if people don't like him, or don't care about him, but there's definitely an inaccurate depiction of the character on the show, and I feel that has quite an impact on the viewers' opinion. Most of the time I don't even remember him. His show counterpart is kinda irrelevant. Melisandre's construction as a character is something I can't explain. I don't really know how they can make her so bland so reduced to be the hot woman in red, and pretty much provide nothing for the actress to work with. I just don'¡t know how to explain it. With a little bit of touches here and there, and perhaps reconstructing the characters with their ADWD counterparts would improve them immensely.

About their acting, I'm gonna ask you to take a look at some of the past reviews since I can't provide the proper links right now. I think they both need to step up their game though.

Yes, the character is horribly written, but it's not horribly acted. It had to be the combination of both things.  And I think even as bad as the character is on the show, Dillane puts up a good fight, and has an ok-to-good performance on the show.

Its a shame, I like Melisandre a lot in the books but I hate her in the show. Half of it is how they write her, but at the same time I cannot stand Carice’s acting. Everything just feels wrong when Mel is on screen to me.

I know a lot of it is writing. Poor writing. Melisandre is not like that on the books, and is definitely sad to see it. But I'm still not convinced with her performance. Pity, cause team dragonstone scenes could be marvelous if she was in the same range, or as close as possible, to Dillane and Cunningham.

What do you think if Stephan Dilliane's acting?

Hi.

I can only say I liked parts, and didn't feel much about other parts of his performance.

I know Dillane's work, he has a good filmography. But I'm not entirely sure I love him as Stannis. And that's basically because he hasn't had much to work with till this point. There is more to come, or at least I hope so, from the characer in following seasons, ao I'll reserve my opinion till then. But I feel D&D are not necessarily interested in him.

Is a bit unfair to write something concerning his GOT performance, since there isn't much to do so. But I did write about the character, Davos and Melisandre, for the reviews, and only basing it on the impressions I got from each episode. It just feels like is too early to give an overall critique for his performance.

Anyway, sorry I can't say much of this. There's one ask I answered about him, and you can read it here.( Sorry is a mess, but you know... lol)

Interesting tidbit: Stephen Dillane (Stannis) is the father of Frank Dillane, who played the 16-year-old Tom Riddle in HP6. Now we know the truth about Stannis' shadow baby... He's became Voldemort! Everything makes sense now (not really).

Omg this awesome, I didn't know that!

That guy is pretty talented, I have to say that his performance in HP kinda creeps me out, cause he was that good, I mean he played Tom like there was something sinister about this young guy, and it's perfect since he gets to be the Dark Lord afterwards. So I loved his acting on that one. 

Like father like son I guess, cause Dillane has an impressive filmography. It runs in the family.

I like how you write your opinions concerning the characters and the acting on the show, which is why I meant to ask: what do you think of Stannis, and of Stephen Dillane's acting in particular?

Hi anon, Dillane, yes well at first I wasn't moved with his performance, basically cause to me Stannis was a King in the eyes of Davos, but not a King himself (if that makes any sense), and I didn't get that from the earlier episodes in this season, yet I said on the reviews that it was too early to judge his overall performance. 

I think we got more of Stannis in the episode in which him and Davos discuss war tactics after Renly's death, and that's when I started getting interested in the character on the show. And after last episode I have to say I'm hooked with his performance, he really portrayed Stannis on point and I really liked that they showed a little bit more of Stannis, cause it's definitely interesting to see the Kings on action.

Stannis and Davos happen to be part of my list of favorite characters, and precisely because of that relationship they have, and I think both actors were able to show that and that certainly prepares the audience for season 3.

What I didn't like, was the choice the writers made for Stannis to have sex with Melisandre with the motivation of a future heir, which is completely out of character for him (what I mean is: the motivation is out of character). I think honor is as significant for Stannis as it was for Ned, but somehow the writers have killed that great quality that the character had, and I didn't like that. But of course this was a choice the show runners made, and the actor has to play his part the best way he can.

Overall I think I'm happy with the casting choice, it was definitely a role that needed to develop to see how he gets where he wants to get. And it was definitely worth the wait to watch episode 9 and see Stannis having one great moment on the show. To give an example of a particular moment: loved when Stannis had to be taken back by his men, and he wanted to stay and fight.
