What you think about stories that bring an OC from the real world to the fictional world? Like: "X is inexplicably dropped into her favorite Tolkien epic". I tried to read a few one of these but it was... idk, weird? But at the same time I see some of these stories with over 500 reviews. Should I give this genre a chance? Do you have any recommendations?

*cough* I've tried to write several of these, including Tolkien, so, yeah, I like them 🤣. But they have to be written *just* right. Many are incredibly self-serving and clearly are meant for just the author's and not the audience's entertainment.

Unfortunately, I haven't read any recently so I can't give you any solid recommendations, but usually ones with high review counts are pretty decent. Readers are pretty good at sorting out the diamonds in the rough.
