What do you think of a) Rory McCann's Hound, and b) Joe Dempsie's Gendry? I only ask because I respect your opinions so.
a) Rory: I think he has done a pretty good job, he definitely embodies the character and has a menacing presence that translates very well, and is more patent when his character interacts with Sansa.
I have to say that I really liked that there was a bit more of the Hound on season 2, and I think it was a little bit of a hint of what is to come with the character on season 3 and maybe 4. So I'm excited, and looking forward to seeing him engaged in more sword fighting, badassery and showing complete disregard for anyone else's life. lol.
when he plays along with Sansa's "It's bad luck to kill a man on your name day".
"Fuck the kingsguard. Fuck the city. Fuck the king"
I couldn't find one to be honest. I just think that the character on season 1 was not so present to actually have bad moments. Not much acting was demanded let's say. Yes, it's true that he has to have a certain presence, that he does have, but at the same time there was not much else demanded from the character. So I think, season 2 gave the actor a better opportunity. Of course, I will have to get back to this one when season 3 comes and the amazing adventures of the Hound and a certain favourite character of mine comes by. Till then, I don't think there's much demand in terms of acting for this actor. But when those scenes come up, I think is safe to say that he will not have a problem with them.
b) I don't think there's much to say about Joe Dempsie. I know the actor from Skins, and I really liked his portrayal of Chris on it, so I was a little bit blindsided when I heard he got the part of Gendry. Basically to put this "nicely", I think that I prefer him in other types of roles, and not as Gendry. He's ok, there's nothing remarkable about his performance, but he doesn't suck. It's also fair to mention that this character doesn't have the challenges that other characters do have, in his story, to actually show if this actor is good. So with the limited part he has to play with, he has done an ok job. I don't think he's great, but I don't think he's bad.
I can't remember which episode was that left me with a feeling that he doesn't do it for me as Gendry, but that feeling kinda went away afterwards. So that's why I think he's just ok. He wouldn't have been my first choice for the role (not that I had choices for it), but I think he has a certain appeal for other parts that I would like to see him on.
"You are still a girl. Well pull your cock out and take a piss, then!"
"you're a lord's daughter, and you lived in a castle, and -- look, all that about cocks, I should never have said -- A-and I've been pissin' in front of you, and everythin'! I - I should be callin' you 'my lady'!"
When Ned talks to him about the bull helmet (season1). I just think that he didn't seem engaged in the moment. Not convincing enough for me.
Thanks for your question, and I would like to know your thoughts about it as well.
