Here’s the thing, I don’t think there’s some big conspiracy around getting kids to identify as transgender. People act like there’s this organized campaign created by evil boogeyman trans people to recruit unsuspecting kids (mostly girls) into transition to the opposite sex.

Now, that isn’t me saying that there aren’t children and teens who identify as trans while not actually being transgender.

It’s just I think these individuals are primarily preteen and teen girls, and like other disorders (like eating disorders) there is not a singular identifiable cause of this phenomenon.

It’s most likely a perfect storm causing this: life stage, lack of control over circumstances, existing feelings of alienation, participation in activities or communities with disproportionately high percentages of trans people, poor body image (body dysmorphia in severe cases), sexism or objectification in their primary culture, etc all can create the perfect environment for someone to believe they’re trans when they aren’t.
