Nathan was baking when Etu swung by to the kitchen to get a light snack or a drink. He was in the middle of making lemon poppy muffins when he had popped the muffins into the oven and was preparing the frosting for it. A simple buttercream frosting with a hint of lemon juice inside.
The Sniper had a habit of making a mess of himself when baking, so when the Medic brought up the mess on his face, Nathan of course smudged his face with frosting from his thumb. It actually hit him on the lips and he tasted frosting. It somehow brought humor to Etu and without a second thought to find a way to silence that chuckle from the other man, Nathan grabbed his shirt, pulled Etu towards him, and kissed him. Allowing him to taste the frosting for himself before Nathan pulled away and went to clean his hands and face properly at the sink.
This is a one shot I wrote about Radian and.. special someone.. There is a lot of room for interpretation B) I listened to this while writing, and right now I’m listening to this and I’m having waaaay too much angsty shippy feels for this stupid crack ship. ..Which is probably why I’m posting this, even though I decided I wouldn’t. I hope you enjoy it ~* (if not for other reasons then just because you get to see how I write)
Oh. And if it has mistakes, I don’t want to hear it. I’m well aware that my English is weak as frick. Let me enjoy this. Thank you.
(Warnings: alcohol and smoking)
The ice cold metal made shivers run through Radian's body as the young skeleton leaned against the railing of a balcony and breathed in the chilly night air. Loud chatting and pounding music continued behind his back – the night had been long, but the party was showing no signs of ending any time soon. Radian let out a sigh and turned his eyes towards the sky. Even though the town was small, it produced enough light waste to hide almost all the stars behind a sickish yellow mist.
Disappointed in the sight, Radian closed his eyes and thought about the forest near his friend's theater, and the cliff that was hidden behind the forest. He had used many nights stargazing at the outlying place. Radian concentrated his thoughts in those nights and the sounds of a house party started to fade away. He could almost smell the grass behind his back and hear the soft waves hitting the rocks somewhere far down below...
”Have a light?” A raspy voice pulled Radian out of his thoughts. The smell of alcohol and the sounds of partying teenagers came back as he turned around and saw a skeleton in a red hoodie standing in the doorway, playing with the cap of a cigarette pack and looking at him with a crooked smile on his face. A faint smile rose on Radian's face as he took a lighter from the pocket of his jacket and clicked it, creating a small, wavering flame. Radian didn't actually smoke. Not anymore. Still, he always carried a lighter with him whenever he went to a party or a bar. It is surprising how many pleasant conversations had started just because he had had a light for someone who needed it.
”Thanks,” the new encounter said, stepping forward and lighting the cigarette between his teeth. The burning end of the cigarette glowed bright red as the smoker positioned himself next to Radian, leaning his back against the railing and looking at the party that continued in the apartment. After a few seconds Radian followed the lead and pressed his back against the cold iron.
”Is it just me, or are all in this party either taken or ridiculously picky?” the stranger said and took a drag off his cigarette before continuing: ”I feel like none of these bitches are warming up for me.”
”Maybe you just have a wrong tactic.” Radian said, smiling a little wider. ”If you have the right attitude, the right words, the right moves, you can go back home with anyone in here.”
”Oh yeah?” the smoker chuckled and glanced at Radian. ”Should I draw the conclusion that you know 'the right moves', then?” Radian let out a soft laugh. The music bounding from a pair of expensive looking speakers changed to a more recent, more popular song, which brought new energy to the mostly drunk mass of young skeletons. They kept on laughing, dancing, drinking and having fun, not giving a single crap about the two young men observing them from the otherwise empty balcony.
”Alright.” the smoker broke the silence between him and Radian and pointed at one of the partygoers. ”How would you woo little miss Green over there?”
Radian followed the pointing and saw a cute skeleton in a bright green shirt standing next to a table full of bottles and plastic cups. Radian leaned back a bit more, and the pupil of his left eye socket started spinning smoothly.
”See how she plays with her cup and leers at the people dancing back there?” Radian said and nodded at a gang dancing next to a wide screen television. ”I bet her girlfriends dragged her here, promising that they would have a fun night together. However, almost as soon as they got in, everyone else found more interesting company and left her all alone. She looks disappointed and bored, as if the same had happened before. Judging from the way she is looking at other pairs as well, she is disgusted with the way these things work.”
Radian's left eye stopped as he turned to look at the smoking stranger. ”If you went to her and acted like a player, you would get beer tossed at your face. What you need is more sympathetic approach. A nice guy, left alone by his friends, feeling lost and awkward in this crowd... I'd say that would work quite nicely.”
”Playing the 'Nice guy' card, huh?” the smoker said and laughed. ”Alright.. How about that 'Legs from here to forever' sitting on the couch?”
It wasn't hard to spot the girl he was referring to. As soon as Radian looked at the couch, he saw a stunningly beautiful skeleton sitting in the middle of a pack of girls. Wearing a really short skirt and a pair of perfectly fitting boots, her legs really looked a lot longer than those of your average skeleton.
”Her mascara is slightly messy and her friends are buzzing all around her. She has been in a shitty relationship for a long time, with a guy that runs after every pretty girl and has had multiple affairs behind her back. Tonight he told her that he won't be able to hang out with her because he is visiting his deadly ill relative, but as soon as the girl walked in here, she saw her boyfriend making out with someone else. They had a big fight that ended up in a break up. She's hurt and mad, and wants both love and revenge. It would be easy to get her attention by simply being a gentleman. A prince saving her from this misery, to put it more poetic.”
”Wow..” the stranger said, genuinely impressed. ”Did you read all that from just her appearance?”
”Actually, I was here already when it happened. Some people are very loud and expansive when they are angry.”
The smoker laughed and Radian smiled, still looking at the gang of girls. There was something to this stranger: the way he talked, the huskiness in his laughter, the attractively relaxed way he leaned back and smoked... Radian stayed silent and listened how the stranger exhaled and tapped the excess ash from his cigarette.
”...And how would you have approached me?”
The casually brought up question baffled Radian and wiped off his smile. Radian turned to look at the smoking skeleton, and wrapped in chilly darkness and faint tobacco smoke he saw a pair of bright yellow eyes, a red glow of a half smoked cigarette, and a crooked smile. Radian's left eye rotated just once as a slight, smooth smile removed the last marks of tiredness from his face.
”I would've walked up to you and asked if you had a light.”
