all of SC's supposed “queer characters,” usually coded or hinted at having non-heterosexuality via 2-3 traits rather than a thing spoken outright/bought up boldly and dismissed in plot are again — usually being interpretated as queer because of stereotypes, bad references to, or because the queer people in the fandom have done so much bending over backwards to make the ideas of associating certain characters with queerness to the extent where many can no longer parce apart canon and general implication.
#pluribus/cyrus + barb azure & clerk carmine may all be canon but it's also not with any clear meaning behind it. it's a passing mention#meanwhile. characters like cinna (who could be interpreted as gay) or even johanna who usually gets interpretated as lesbian aren't outrigh#- queer characters#and what i also don't like is this fandom jumping to make the “flamboyant male = gay claim” and “angry woman = butch or sapphic”#because that's weird.#and clerk's representation is completely unpositive all around. we hear once or twice about his sexuality but never again#in the trilogy you also COULD rally that chaffnathy are lightly implied to have a level of queerness to them. but that's again. implication#and traits alone#and this place gets shallow about queerness as a whole. no one's truly invested in it if not a sex thing or a funny label#anyway k don't care if this isn't coherent it's early morning#meta meta
