“He shoots and....” The short flick of his fingertips sent the basketball into the air, ricocheting off the backboard to run the rim of the ring for a death-defying second before it slipped, falling beyond the net with the inevitable exhale of barely held breath. “Well, there goes my NBA career.” It wasn’t really what Jackson would call a productive way to spend his time, but really, he’d never actually turn down the opportunity to hang out with one of his closest friends, perhaps even more so armed with the off-handed knowledge that Kevin wasn’t really having the greatest time at the moment. A fact which didn’t need to be spoken. He’d spent far too many years being dependant on reading people and their body language, and it’d been far too many years for him not to know when shit was going on with Kev.
The ball now beneath the control of his palm as he bounced it against the ground of the indoor court a few times settled softly in sync with the rhythmic beat of his heart as he approached the edge of the stand. Reaching for his water bottle and tearing off his sweatshirt, he shifted the ball from one hand to the other before tossing it to his friend, not much of a multitasker if he could choose otherwise. “You’re gonna’ have to score yourself a three-pointer, or you know I’m gonna’ ask what’s going on.” An ode to the fact that he’d noticed the... slight level of irritation, or nearly unnecessary force behind each pass Kevin had made to him earlier.
