There's a game I play with my friend, it's a trading card game, and whenever we play RNG screws with me, and I'm not a good sport at all when I lose. And I hate myself for getting so mad, I say things like "I hope you lose" when he's playing other people, after we've played together. And I just really hate myself for getting so irritable. It's a little stupid..... -BadSport
Hi love, sorry for the late response!
It sounds like you’re a competitive person, and that this causes you to get really upset when you lose. I want you to know this doesn’t make you a bad person or anything. It’s normal to feel bad about losing, no one likes to lose! Sometimes when you get caught up in the heat of the competition, things can get carried away. But it’s good that you recognize that you’re being a sore loser, and that you want to take steps to change that!
It might help to remind yourself that you can’t win at everything. Everyone loses something at some point in their life.
Maybe after a game with your friend, you might need to excuse yourself for a few minutes while you calm down. That’s perfectly okay and acceptable! A lot of times we can’t control the way things make us feel, but we can control how we react and what we do with those emotions. Maybe have a calming song you can listen to or take a nice hot shower or something like that to help you relax afterwards. This can help dissipate the negative emotions you get from losing. If you keep practicing this technique, you can train yourself to be more calm and relaxed after a loss.
Maybe you can read through this forum, where a bunch of people discuss how to be okay with losing. This particular person is talking about losing board games, but I still think the discussion may help you in terms of losing in general: https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/2825qo/how_did_you_become_ok_with_losing/
